Indiana University Offers Nationally Recognized Master's and Doctoral Programs in Education

The School of Education core campus at Indiana University Bloomington and Indiana University¿Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) offers nationally recognized programs leading to the degrees of Master of Science in Education, Specialist in Education, Doctor of Education (Ed.D.), and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.). Most graduate programs are offered on the Indiana University Bloomington residential campus.

The IU Master of Science in Education degree is offered in art education, counseling and counselor education, educational leadership, educational psychology, elementary and early childhood education, higher education, history and philosophy of education, human development, instructional systems technology, international and comparative education, language education, learning and developmental sciences, mathematics education, science education, secondary education, social studies education, special education, and students affairs.

Indiana University's Specialist in Education degree is offered in counseling and counselor education, educational leadership, educational psychology, elementary and early childhood education, history of education, human development, instructional systems technology, language education, school psychology, secondary education, and special education.

The Ph.D. is offered in art education, counseling psychology, curriculum studies, early childhood education, education policy studies, educational psychology, elementary education, higher education, inquiry methodology, instructional systems technology, international and comparative education, language education, learning and developmental sciences, mathematics education, philosophy of education, school psychology, science education, social studies education, and special education.

Indiana University's Ed.D. is offered in art education, curriculum studies, early childhood education, educational leadership, elementary education, higher education, instructional systems technology, language education, mathematics, science education, and special education.

In addition to the many residential programs, Indiana University's School of Education on its Bloomington campus also offers some online options for Web-based course work and degrees.

On the Indianapolis campus, master's degrees are offered in the school track in counseling and counselor education, elementary education, language education, secondary education, and special education. Doctoral-level course work is available in educational leadership and higher education.

All Indiana University programs in teacher preparation and educational leadership have full accreditation from the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). In addition, the Indiana Professional Standards Board has accepted all teacher education programs and the American Psychological Association has approved the school psychology and counseling psychology programs.

State-of-the-art Research Facilities on IU's Campuses

IU's Bloomington campus is a major research center where leading scholars investigate national and international educational issues. Its Indianapolis campus provides the opportunity to study in a major urban and policy center and to work in diverse school settings.

Research facilities in Bloomington include the Wright Education Building, featuring a distance education studio/classroom, multimedia laboratories, and many other specialized educational settings; the Education Library, containing an extensive collection of 70,000 monographs and journals; and access to the ERIC Clearinghouse for Social Studies/Social Science Education and the ERIC Clearinghouse on Reading, English, and Communication, as well as educational research centers.

A highlight of the Indianapolis campus is the state-of-the-art electronic library that allows researchers access to information worldwide. This Indiana University campus has been a leader in the application of computer and video technology, including a distance education studio/classroom located in the School of Education.

Financial Assistance Available at IU for Graduate Students

Graduate students may qualify for financial assistance, including teaching and graduate assistantships, fellowships, fee remission scholarships, hourly appointments, and loans. Most doctoral students are able to secure graduate research or teaching assistantships. Fellowships and scholarships may be granted to doctoral students with superior academic credentials.

Students from underrepresented groups may receive financial assistance through the School of Education and the University Graduate School fellowship office. Additional student support opportunities are available through the Indiana University financial aid offices on campus in Bloomington and Indianapolis.
