The John Glenn School of Public Affairs Graduate Programs
The John Glenn School of Public Affair is the newest school at Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. It provides graduate study in public affairs and management, offering numerous degrees including the Master of Public Administration (MPA), Master of Arts (MA), and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.). The programs are interdisciplinary in nature and emphasize analytical tools for strategic problem solving.
In year two, John Glenn School of Public Affairs students have the opportunity to specialize in an area of interest through policy labs and elective courses. Common specializations on its Columbus, Ohio campus have included: fiscal management, health services administration, human resources and labor relations, education policy, environment and natural resources policy, regulation and urban policy, economic development, and international relations.
John Glenn School of Public Affairs MPA Degree
The John Glenn School of Public Affairs' MPA is a two-year program that prepares students for leadership and analytical positions in the public and nonprofit sectors. The core curriculum consists of courses in the areas of policy, management, economics, and data analysis.
Students are also encouraged to pursue an internship with a public or nonprofit organization. The internship provides a data source for the policy paper that students prepare during the second year. In this capstone project, students report the results of applied research on a policy or management problem, and include a proposed solution
John Glenn School of Public Affairs MA Degree
The John Glenn School of Public Affairs' in-career MA in public policy and management is a shorter version of the school's MPA program, designed specifically for working professionals. Full-time students on the John Glenn School of Public Affairs campus can complete the MA program in twelve months, but students may enroll part-time as well.
Admission to the program is limited to students with three or more years of significant administrative or analytical work experience, and prospective students must submit a resume to the Ohio State University Graduate Studies Committee in Columbus, Ohio, for review prior to applying.
Dual-degree MA programs are available with Ohio State University's College of Social Work, the School of Natural Resources, the City and Regional Planning Program, the Division of Health Services Management and Policy, the College of Law, and the Center for Slavic and East European Studies. A joint MA in arts policy and administration is offered in conjunction with the College of the Arts.
John Glenn School of Public Affairs PhD Degree
Since its inception, the John Glenn School of Public Affairs in Columbus, Ohio, has also offered a Ph.D. degree in public policy and management. The emphasis of this academically rigorous program is on research. This degree prepares individuals for careers in teaching and research at universities around the world, as well as for senior-level research roles in government, consulting firms, and nonprofit institutions.
Ohio State University Graduate Costs and Financial Aid
Graduate tuition for full-time Ohio State University students who are Ohio residents is $10,800 per academic year. Nonresident fees are $25,662 per academic year. All costs are subject to change. Costs are based on a three-quarter academic year.
Fellowships and graduate assistantships (research and administrative) funded by the John Glenn School of Public Affairs are available to qualified, full-time students. Fellowships and assistantships provide a full tuition waiver and monthly stipend.

The campus is located two miles north of downtown Columbus, Ohio, the capital city of Ohio, and a metropolitan area with a population of more than 1.7 million.
Recreational and cultural opportunities abound in the area, which also provides students with a wide range of opportunities for research and practical experience, including summer internships with organizations in Columbus, Ohio, state and local government agencies, and numerous nonprofit organizations.
Applying to Ohio State University
The recommended deadline for autumn quarter admission to the John Glenn School of Public Affairs is March 15th. Undergraduate coursework in statistics, American government, and microeconomics is strongly recommended, but not required. All applicants to the John Glenn School of Public Affairs' MPA and Ph.D. programs must submit GRE or GMAT scores. The deadline for filing an application to the John Glenn School of Public Affairs' graduate program in order to be considered for fellowships is January 15 for domestic students, and November 30 for international students.
