Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy, Master of International Business, Master of Laws in International Law, and a Ph.D
Fletcher students enjoy a flexible curriculum, allowing them to choose from a wide selection of specialties, or even cross-register for courses at other units of Tufts and at Harvard.
Fletcher's courses are organized into three divisions: International Law and Organizations; Diplomacy, History, and Politics; and Economics and International Business. Students choose one or two concentrations from twenty-two fields of study, to develop depth of knowledge in their chosen area of interest. Fletcher encourages a cross-pollination of ideas in a collaborative environment.
The majority of The Fletcher School's students are enrolled in the two-year Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy (MALD) program, enrolling over 180 top students from over 70 countries. The interdisciplinary approach to the curriculum that includes courses from all three divisions ensures that each student gains a foundational breadth of knowledge in international affairs. Students then select two areas of specialization to study more in depth, gaining a profound knowledge of those areas.
The two-year Master of International Business (MIB) program combines traditional business skills with a depth of knowledge in international affairs. The rigorous and interdisciplinary MIB ensures that students are well-equipped to handle both the demands of daily business as well as the unique challenges of working in an international environment.
The one-year Master of Laws in International Law (LLM) program is a full-time academic degree for legal professionals who wish to obtain specialized education in a particular area of international law.
Those who have completed a master's degree in international affairs or a related field, including second-year MALD students, may apply to the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) program.
Mid-Career Professionals at Fletcher Can Pursue a One-Year Master of Arts Program or Global Master of Arts Program
The one-year Master of Arts (MA) program is limited to mid-career professionals from governments, international organizations, or private institutions who can take an educational sabbatical to pursue full-time graduate study. Those unable to spend an academic year studying on campus may instead opt for the Global Master of Arts Program (GMAP), which combines three intensive two-week residency periods with extensive Internet-based study.
