From the College
The Art Institute of California–Los Angeles prepares students to pursue entry-level positions in creative careers in the arts. The school strives to provide quality programs and services that foster the development of student potential. The Art Institute of California–Los Angeles is housed in a 107,000-square-foot building that was designed with the creative student in mind. Bright, spacious classrooms, studios, and labs offer a productive working atmosphere.
The school currently offers ten bachelor’s degree programs and five associate degree programs. Each program is offered on a year-round basis, allowing students to continue to work uninterrupted toward their degrees. An impressive faculty of working professionals strives to strengthen students’ skills and cultivate their talents. Each student has an academic adviser, who helps to devise career strategies and choose courses consistent with the student’s career goals. Programs are carefully defined with support and contributions from the professional community. Curricula are reviewed regularly to keep up with the needs of a changing marketplace. Continuing education is available through the Center for Professional Development of The Art Institute of California–Los Angeles.
The student population includes recent high school graduates, transfer students, and those who have left a previous employment situation to study and train for a new career. Students are creative, competitive, and open to new ideas. They place great value on an education that prepares them for an exciting entry-level position in the arts.
Assistance is available to help students with resume writing, networking, and keeping aware of what employers are looking for in job candidates.
The Office of Residential Life and Housing is committed to providing students with comfortable and convenient housing options. The Art Institute of California–Los Angeles contracts with several local luxury apartment complexes to provide housing to students. Professional residential life staff members live on-site and are available to address student needs. The fully furnished apartment units are located in gated and courtesy-patrolled communities that include on-site parking, fitness centers, swimming pools, and computer rooms. Direct shuttle service is available from school-sponsored housing sites to The Art Institute of California–Los Angeles. The school also provides accommodations to qualified students with disabilities. The Disability Services Office assists qualified students in acquiring reasonable and appropriate accommodations and in supporting their success at the school.
A wide variety of clubs and organizations are available to students, including the Culinary Club, International Student Club, BAMF (comics: writing, drawing, analysis), and Black Ops (PC gaming). The Non-Traditional Student Resource (NTSR) serves as a communication network, fostering a comfortable academic and social atmosphere while providing a support system for nontraditional students.
The Art Institute of California–Los Angeles is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools to award bachelor’s degrees, associate degrees, and diplomas. The Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools is listed as a nationally recognized accrediting agency by the United States Department of Education and is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

Location
Located in Los Angeles, the arts and entertainment capital of the world, The Art Institute of California–Los Angeles is within easy driving distance of the Pacific Coast Highway, Century City, and downtown. The city offers a rich diversity of food, fashion, architecture, entertainment, languages, world views, and religions that are showcased in numerous community and ethnic festivals throughout the year. Leisure activities include hiking on Santa Monica Mountain trails or visits to the Getty Museum, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, or Los Angeles Zoo. Students may also enjoy dining and shopping on Santa Monica’s Third Street Promenade or in nearby Westwood Village. Music and theater venues include the Hollywood Bowl, the Greek Theatre, the Music Center, and the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. Other popular destinations are Watts Towers, the La Brea Tar Pits, Hollywood Boulevard’s Walk of Fame, and Mann’s Chinese Theater.
Programs of Study and Degrees
The Art Institute of California–Los Angeles offers Bachelor of Science degree programs in audio production, culinary management, digital filmmaking & video production, game art & design, game programming, graphic design, interior design, media arts & animation, visual effects & motion graphics, and Web design & interactive media.
Associate of Science degree programs are available in baking & pastry, culinary arts, graphic design, video production, and Web design & interactive media.
The culinary arts, culinary management, graphic design, and interior design programs are available in an evening and weekend option format.
Diplomas are offered in the art of cooking and baking & pastry.
Academic Programs
The academic year is divided into four academic quarters that begin in January, April, July, and October. Associate degree candidates must complete 112 academic credits to graduate, including 28 general education credits. These are generally earned over seven quarters. Bachelor’s degree candidates must complete 192 credits, including 56 general education credits. These are generally earned over eleven quarters. All students must complete their programs of study with a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA to meet graduation requirements.
Academic Facilities
Located at 31st Street in the city of Santa Monica, The Art Institute of California–Los Angeles provides equipment that includes projectors, editing decks, PC and Macintosh computers, printers, and well-equipped kitchens. The library collection includes approximately 15,000 books, 260 periodical subscriptions, and 1,650 items of digital and audiovisual materials. The library is equipped with eight computer stations, has Internet access, and subscribes to online databases. In addition to classrooms, studios, laboratories, offices, a student lounge, a learning resource center, and an exhibition gallery, the school also maintains an art supply store for the convenience of its students.

Costs
Tuition cost varies by program. Prospective students should contact the school for current tuition costs. Other charges include a starting kit for all first-quarter students. Kits vary in price depending on the program of study.
Financial Aid
Financial aid is available for those who qualify. Students who require financial assistance should first complete and submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and meet with a financial aid officer.
Faculty
The Art Institute of California–Los Angeles faculty comprises full-time and part-time instructors, many with advanced degrees and professional experience in their respective fields.
Student Government
The Associated Student Council provides a forum to discuss student issues, facilitates the exchange of ideas and information among students, and acts as a liaison between students and members of the faculty and administration; it also organizes student activities at the school and provides student leadership opportunities. In addition, the Activities and Events Council consists of an elected board, representatives from each student organization, and other interested students.
Admission Requirements
The admission process at The Art Institute of California–Los Angeles includes a student interview with the admissions office (either in person or by phone) and submission of a completed application form, a 150-word essay, high school transcripts or General Educational Development (GED) test scores, and official SAT or ACT scores. There is a $50 application fee.
