The Illinois Institute of Art–Schaumburg provides students with a creative educational environment. Offering twelve bachelor’s degree programs and two associate degree programs, the School and its dedicated faculty members are committed to preparing students to pursue entry-level positions in the creative arts.

Under the guidance of industry professionals, students learn by doing the types of tasks they are likely to encounter in the workplace. In addition, assistance is available to help students with resume writing, networking, and keeping aware of what employers are looking for in job candidates.

The Student Affairs Office helps students who need assistance in locating housing.

The student population includes recent high school graduates, transfer students, and those who have left a previous employment situation to study and train for a new career. Students are creative, competitive, and open to new ideas. They place great value on an education that prepares them for an exciting entry-level position in the arts.

The Illinois Institute of Art–Schaumburg places a high value on the quality of student life inside and outside the classroom. Students can take part in a wide variety of activities, clubs and organizations, community service opportunities, and various student life enhancing committees.

Instructors are encouraged to look for upcoming books and to advise the administration of any books that may prove useful to their students. Students also have access to the public libraries.

The Interior Design program leading to the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree is accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (146 Monroe Center NW, Suite 1318, Grand Rapids, Michigan 49503-2822; Web site: www.accredit-id.org).

Located in suburban Chicago, in Schaumburg, the School provides easy access to the big city, while giving students a more suburban environment in which to live and learn.

Bachelor’s degree programs are offered in advertising, audio production, digital filmmaking & video production, digital photography, fashion design, fashion marketing & management, game art & design, graphic design, interior design, media arts & animation, visual effects & motion graphics, and Web design & interactive media.

Associate degree programs are offered in graphic design and Web design & interactive media.

The graphic design, interior design, and Web design &interactive media programs are also available in an evening and weekend option format.

Diploma programs are offered in digital design, residential planning, and Web design.

The Illinois Institute of Art–Schaumburg operates on a year-round, four-quarter system.

The Illinois Institute of Art–Schaumburg is home to classrooms, studios, offices, a student lounge, a supply store, and a learning resource center. Equipment provided at The Illinois Institute of Art–Schaumburg is specific to the program of study and may include projectors, editing decks, camcorders, and PC and Macintosh computers.

Tuition cost varies by program. Prospective students should contact the school for current tuition costs. Other charges include a starting kit for all first-quarter students. Kits vary in price depending on the program of study.

Financial aid is available for those who qualify. Students who require financial assistance should first complete and submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and meet with a financial aid officer.

Faculty members at The Illinois Institute of Art–Schaumburg have professional knowledge that they bring into the classroom. The School’s faculty members provide their students with a unique, relevant educational experience.

Applicants must provide proof of high school graduation or achievement of a General Educational Development (GED) certificate as a prerequisite for admission. In lieu of documenting high school graduation or a GED certificate, applicants may provide proof of attaining an associate degree or higher from an accredited institution. An official transcript indicating date of high school graduation, GED certificate (including test scores), or date of college graduation (including degree granted) is required as proof.

All individuals seeking admission to The Illinois Institute of Art–Schaumburg are interviewed in person or by phone by an assistant director of admissions, and each applicant must create an original essay of at least 150 words stating how an education at The Illinois Institute of Art–Schaumburg would help the student to achieve career goals. There is a $50 application fee.
