The Art Institute of Las Vegas provides education programs that prepare students to pursue entry-level positions in the creative arts. Located in the prestigious Green Valley area of Henderson in the Las Vegas Valley, the school occupies approximately 48,000 square feet and currently offers twelve bachelor’s degree programs and three associate degree programs.

Each program is offered on a year-round basis, allowing students to work uninterrupted toward their degrees. The faculty members strive to strengthen the students’ skills and cultivate their talents through programs carefully designed with the support and contributions of leading members of the professional community. Instructional methods include lectures, demonstrations, labs, one-on-one tutorials, and periodic examinations. Courses may include internships, field trips, online courses, and independent studies. The curricula are reviewed periodically to ensure that they meet the needs of a changing marketplace.

Students come to The Art Institute of Las Vegas from across the United States and abroad. The student population includes recent high school graduates, transfer students, and those who have left a previous employment situation to study and train for a new career. Students are creative, competitive, and open to new ideas. They place great value on an education that prepares them for an exciting entry-level position in the arts.

Students are expected to gain an understanding of theoretical and practical knowledge appropriate to their degree objectives, complete specific courses, and develop critical and analytical learning abilities along with values that contribute to lifelong learning.

The Career Services Department helps students to launch a job search and can assist in locating part-time employment while students are still in school. The department assists students with resume writing, networking, and keeping abreast of what employers are looking for in job applicants.

The Art Institute of Las Vegas school-sponsored housing facility offers a variety of living accommodations in a fully-equipped, partially furnished, apartment-style complex. A resident adviser lives in the housing facility and assists students in coordinating activities, meeting each other, and learning about the school.

The Student Affairs Office is the key contact for all international students. This office provides a variety of support services and enrichment activities to meet the needs of international students.

The Art Institute of Las Vegas holds film festivals, portfolio shows, and other activities for students. Counseling services are available to all students while attending the school. The school provides confidential short-term counseling for individuals and groups in accordance with professional, legal, and ethical codes of the counseling profession.

Location

Las Vegas provides sunny days, museums, libraries, parks, gift shops, and historical sights. Just outside the city are some of the world’s most beautiful natural wonders, including the Grand Canyon, Red Rock Canyon, Death Valley, Hoover Dam, and Valley of Fire State Park. Nearly 1.5 million residents live in the Las Vegas metro area.

Programs of Study and Degrees

The school offers bachelor’s degree programs (thirty-six months) in audio production, culinary management, digital filmmaking & video production, digital photography, fashion & retail management, food & beverage management, game art & design, graphic design, interior design, media arts & animation, visual effects & motion graphics, and Web design & interactive media.

Associate degree programs (twenty-one months) are available in baking & pastry, culinary arts, and drafting technology & design.

Academic Programs

To receive an associate degree, a student must complete a minimum of 112 quarter credits, with 28 quarter credits in general education courses and 84 quarter credits in a specialty area. To receive a bachelor’s degree, a student must complete a minimum of 192 quarter credits, with 48 quarter credits in general education courses and 114 quarter credits in a specialty area. For both degrees, the student must achieve a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher, meet portfolio or other requirements, and satisfy all financial obligations to the school. A limited number of courses are available online for an additional fee per course.

Academic Facilities

The Art Institute of Las Vegas houses classrooms, studios, offices, a student lounge, a supply store, Mac and PC labs, faculty and staff offices, and the Learning Resource Center, with library and reference materials. In addition, program-specific equipment, including projectors, editing decks, camcorders, printers, drafting tables, and kitchen appliances are provided to help students complete their projects. Students also have access to the public libraries and the University of Nevada–Las Vegas campus library.

Costs

Tuition cost varies by program. Prospective students should contact the school for current tuition costs. Other charges include a starting kit for all first quarter students. Kits vary in price depending on the program of study.

Financial Aid

Financial aid is available for those who qualify. Students who require financial assistance should first complete and submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and meet with a financial aid officer.

Faculty

The Art Institute of Las Vegas faculty includes full-time and part-time instructors, many of whom have advanced degrees and professional experience in their respective fields of study.

Admission Requirements

As a prerequisite for admission, a prospective student must be a high school graduate, hold a General Educational Development (GED) certificate, or have earned a bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution of postsecondary education. Each prospective student is interviewed, either in person or by telephone, by an assistant director of admissions to determine whether the student and school are a good fit. Portfolios may qualify the student for advanced placement, and applications may be submitted any time prior to the start of the next quarter. There is a $50 application fee.
