The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale trains and prepares individuals to pursue entry-level positions in the creative arts. Professional development is encouraged through curricula that emphasize the communication, reasoning, and technical skills potential employers seek.

The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale offers fourteen bachelor’s degree and eight associate degree programs.

The Career Services Office offers job search assistance to help students find part-time employment while attending The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale and entry-level positions in the arts following graduation. Students may also join professional organizations, which may put them in contact with professionals from their chosen field.

The student population includes recent high school graduates, transfer students, and those who have left a previous employment situation to study and train for a new career. Students are creative, competitive, and open to new ideas.

Student clubs and organizations have been formed in multimedia, illustration, graphic design, philosophy, fashion design, animation, industrial design, and photography.

School-sponsored housing facilities are close by and are available to those students who prefer a traditional, residential-life environment. Housing facilities allow for easy access to beaches, boating, parks, and shopping. Independent housing information and roommate referrals are also available.

The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools to award bachelor’s degrees, associate degrees, and diplomas. The Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools is listed as a nationally recognized accrediting agency by the United States Department of Education and is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

The Associate of Science in culinary arts degree is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of The American Culinary Federation. The Bachelor of Science in culinary management degree is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of The American Culinary Federation.

The Interior Design program leading to the Bachelor of Science degree is accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (146 Monroe Center NW, Suite 1318, Grand Rapids, Michigan 49503-2822; Web site: www.accredit-id.org).

Location

Surrounded by waterways, Fort Lauderdale is known as “The Venice of America.” The area has an average temperature of 70 degrees in the winter and offers many opportunities for fun in the sun. The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale is close to 23 miles of beaches, shopping districts, museums, historical sites, restaurants, and nightclubs. Located between Miami and Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale’s many attractions include its world-famous beach, the picturesque Riverwalk, and Las Olas Boulevard–a centerpiece of fashion, fine dining, and entertainment. Tourists and residents alike enjoy the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, Museum of Discovery and Science, Museum of Art, and Old Fort Lauderdale Village and Museum. Fort Lauderdale also supports a diverse range of industries, including marine, manufacturing, finance, insurance, real estate, high technology, avionics/aerospace, and film and television production.

Programs of Study and Degrees

The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale offers Bachelor of Science degree programs in advertising, culinary management, digital filmmaking & video production, fashion design, fashion merchandising, game art & design, graphic design, illustration, industrial design, interior design, media arts & animation, photography, visual effects & motion graphics, and Web design & interactive media.

Associate of Science degree programs are available in baking & pastry, broadcasting, culinary arts, fashion design, graphic design, photography, video production, and Web design & interactive media.

Diploma programs are offered in art of cooking, graphic & desktop design, and residential design.

The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale offers Bachelor of Science degree programs, Associate of Science degree programs, and diploma programs.

Academic Facilities

The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale occupies approximately 140,000 square feet in four separate buildings. The school has fifty different computer and program-specific labs, including those for animation, digital sound, CAD, and fashion design and the Digital Imaging Center. More than 580 PCs and Macintosh computers in a number of labs are available to students. Software programs include industry-relevant programs such as Premiere, Dreamweaver, Final Cut Pro, Quark, Illustrator, Photoshop, AutoCAD, Gerber, 3-D Max, Painter, Director, Flash, and Maya. The Nevin C. Meinhardt Memorial Library features a collection of books, periodicals, audiovisual materials, and online databases. The library provides access to remote resources through the Internet and cooperative agreements with other area libraries.

In addition, culinary students receive hands-on training in the bakery and presentation kitchens. The Chef’s Palette is an on-site restaurant where students learn firsthand what it takes to operate and manage a restaurant. The Mark K. Wheeler Gallery is located on the first floor of the main building.

Tuition cost varies by program. Prospective students should contact the school for current tuition costs. Other charges include a starting kit for all first-quarter students. Kits vary in price depending on the program of study.

Financial Aid

Financial aid is available for those who qualify. Students who require financial assistance should first complete and submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and meet with a financial aid officer.

Faculty

The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale consists of both full-time and part-time professional faculty members, many of whom have advanced degrees and experience in their chosen fields.

Student Government

All students have the right to participate and vote in Student Government elections and referenda. The Student Government works with faculty and staff members to provide numerous events, including student socials, community outreach programs, volunteer work, and student service events.

Admission Requirements

Admission to The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale requires a completed application form, evidence of high school graduation or successful completion of the General Educational Development (GED) test, and an essay on how the school may assist in achieving the applicant’s creative goals. Applicants are also required to schedule an interview with an admissions representative and, if financial aid is needed, to complete the FAFSA and PLUS loan forms found in the application packet. There is a $50 application fee.
