The Space Operations Institute Offers Students Unique Training and Career Opportunities
The Space Operations Institute builds upon Capitol's established engineering foundation and works closely with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to understand the aerospace industry's changing skill requirements. As a part of Capitol for the past six years, the Space Operations Institute has grown to become one of the college's greatest testaments to its hands-on learning environment.
Its partnership with NASA Goddard Space Flight Center allows students to "learn from doing" and gain real-world experience, and they don't have to wait until they are seniors; after just one semester of good grades and a good work ethic, a freshman engineering, computer science, or technology student could be part of a team that operates, maintains, and sustains a working NASA satellite. Satellites operated by students at the Space Operations Institute are in extended mode operations; they have already met their primary objectives by NASA's terms, but are still healthy and capable of producing valuable scientific data.
By allowing students to utilize "expired" satellites as learning tools, NASA can keep projects going longer than anticipated, while putting their dollars to work training the next generation of flight controllers and system engineers. Currently, Space Operations Institute students are working on a research and development project for the Tropical Rainfall Measurement Mission, a satellite designed to monitor and study tropical rainfall. Capitol College Students Have Access to Financial Aid Programs and Are Guaranteed Jobs Upon Graduation
Getting an education is an affordable goal, and the financial aid staff at Capitol is committed to helping students review options and finding the best financial plan for them. Over 80 percent of students receive some form of financial assistance through financial aid programs, grants, or loans. Full-time students at Capitol are eligible for a five-year tuition lock with good academic standing; freshmen pay the same when they are admitted as they do when they graduate.
In addition, Capitol College offers something few other colleges do: a job guarantee. It's called The Capitol College Commitment; students are guaranteed career placement in the fields of engineering, computer science, technology, or business within 90 days of graduation, or they receive 36 additional undergraduate credits for free while continuing their job search.
How can Capitol be so sure students will get a job offer? Look at its career placement record. Last year, over 90 percent of students had a job offer or went on to graduate school within 90 days of graduation. Capitol holds an annual Career Day, when professionals and industry experts from government agencies and regional businesses are invited to speak to students about careers, advancements in technology, and tools they will need to succeed.
The annual Capitol College Career Fair, which attracts more than 50 employers from around the Baltimore/Washington area, is another great career placement opportunity. It allows skilled students in engineering, computer science, and technology to network with employers who seek quality candidates and kick-start their careers.

As society becomes increasingly reliant on electronic information and the number of national security incidents steadily climbs, the demand for a new breed of information technology professionals keeps growing. Capitol College remains committed to its mission in education and information assurance through collaborations with business and government agencies, such as the National Security Agency and Department of Homeland Security, which has designated Capitol College a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education.
The bachelor of science degree in information assurance is designed to meet current and anticipated needs for highly trained information assurance professionals, and is taught by faculty experts that have over 20 years of average technology and security industry experience. BSIA students have the chance to build on the foundations of computer science and information technology while developing a mastery of information assurance and security concepts, tactics, and strategies.
