Brooklyn College of CUNY Offers Some 17,000 Students a Liberal Arts Core Curriculum from Award-Winning Faculty
Brooklyn College of the City University of New York (CUNY) is a public college offering an affordable liberal arts education to men and women. Many immigrants and children of immigrants -- sometimes the first in their families to go to college -- choose Brooklyn College as a superb yet reasonably priced option for college that will lead to a productive career and many other opportunities.
Brooklyn College enrolls roughly 17,000 students, with a freshman class of nearly 1,400. Students come from all over the country and around the world, although the admissions criteria for the college are more selective each year.
In the past decade, Brooklyn College has hired over 250 talented young scholars to serve as faculty members, in an effort to rejuvenate and diversify its faculty. These scholars have won numerous awards, ranging from Fulbright and Guggenheim Fellowships to National Science Foundation and National Institute of Health Grants. Brooklyn College Offers a Beautiful Student-Centered Campus, Grassy Quad, and Modern Facilities in the Heart of New York
Brooklyn College CUNY is located in the heart of Brooklyn, yet the campus is so beautiful that it has been featured in numerous films and advertisements. The buildings are Georgian red brick, centered on a grassy quad, a vision originated by famed architect Randolph Evans. This vision continues with the West Quad Project, an initiative for Brooklyn College to add another building and another large grassy quad for students to enjoy.
Construction is often underway at Brooklyn College, from the renovation of the college's historic buildings and the expansion of the Brooklyn College Library to the plans for a new Center for the Performing Arts. Whether taking advantage of the Aquatic Research Center or the Television Center, students at Brooklyn College can be assured that they have access to modern facilities.

Students at Brooklyn College have the opportunity to take a varied selection of courses from a diverse array of faculty members. In the first decade of the new millennium, Brooklyn College hired over 250 young scholars from diverse backgrounds to join their teaching staff. The college's faculty members are from all walks of life, and many have won awards ranging from NASA grants to Pulitzer Prizes.
Majors are available in adolescence education, Africana studies, anthropology and archaeology, art, biology, chemistry, classics, computer and information science, economics, education, English, film, geology, health and nutrition sciences, history, Judaic studies, library, mathematics, modern languages and literatures, music, philosophy, physical education and exercise science, physics, political science, psychology, Puerto Rican and Latino studies, SEEK department, sociology, speech communication arts and sciences, television and radio, theater, and women's studies.
High-achieving students may also apply to the Macaulay Honors College at Brooklyn College, a part of the college's Honors Academy for exceptional students.

The nearly 100 student organizations are the backbone of campus life at Brooklyn College, creating opportunities for out-of-classroom learning, community service, and dialogue among a diverse community of students. Groups range from academic clubs to fraternities and sororities. Students from various ethnic backgrounds can join the Brooklyn Chess Club, the Health and Nutrition Club, or even a Jewish a capella singing group.
Students looking to get involved in media can work for one of the three student newspapers ("Kingsman," "Excelsior," and "Nightcall"), or take shifts in the studio at WBCR, Brooklyn College Radio.
Brooklyn College is a NCAA Division III school, fielding 10 teams in sports such as soccer and cross country. Students wishing to enjoy physical recreation but who prefer noncompetitive sports still have a wide range of options and may make use of the college's facilities.
Students interested in community service can work with the SERVA program to develop leadership skills while performing valuable volunteer service. Students accumulating sufficient hours can receive an honors notation on their transcript.
