Overview
Eastern Nazarene is Located in Quincy, a Historic Suburb, Close to Harbors, Beaches, and Boston
Eastern Nazarene College (ENC) is located in a suburb of Boston, Massachusetts, a city recognized as an educational and cultural center. Eastern Nazarene is situated in the town of Quincy, near Boston's south shore and within walking distance of Quincy Bay.
Students will find plenty of Massachusetts history here. Quincy is the birthplace of John Adams and his son, John Quincy Adams, both U.S. presidents. Students can see the Adams National Historical Park, commemorating the place they were born. Quincy is a central location for students, within easy driving distance of the Massachusetts' areas of Plymouth and Cape Cod. ENC is close to miles of coastline, and students can hop a ferry from Quincy to the Boston Harbor Islands to sightsee, swim, or hike. Students do not have to travel far to find a beach. Quincy has about a dozen beaches for swimming and picnicking. Nearby, Blue Hills Reservation invites ENC nature lovers to enjoy more than 7,000 lush acres.
Eastern Nazarene students can go into Boston often and still discover new adventures. They can climb to the top of Bunker Hill Monument, view the Museum of Fine Arts' collection, attend an outdoor concert, snap photos of Paul Revere's house, or ice skate in Boston Common. ENC's environment truly supports academic and extracurricular interests.
The Bachelor's Degree Program at ENC Includes a Special Term for Student Experiences
The Eastern Nazarene liberal arts program requires dedication to a course of study as well as openness to exploring new ideas. Students are taught from a Christian perspective but are encouraged to find personal meaning in their beliefs. An ENC bachelor's degree in liberal arts prepares students for top-ranked graduate schools and challenging careers.
The undergraduate, bachelor's degree program starts with a core, liberal arts curriculum. All students earning bachelor's degrees must complete specified courses and select additional courses from four academic areas.
Fifty academic majors are offered within sixteen departments in five divisions. In addition to its liberal arts' majors, ENC enrolls students in certificate programs in education, cooperative engineering programs, and preprofessional programs. The liberal arts course work includes beneficial aspects such as team teaching, enrichment courses for upperclassmen, and independent study. As students work toward their bachelor's degrees, a four-week January term opens the door to experiences outside the normal schedule. During this month, students participate in travel-study, attend interdisciplinary courses, or obtain practical experiences in a career field.
ENC students benefit by earning a bachelor's degree while receiving individualized attention from a faculty concerned about their success. Faculty members get to know students inside the classroom and also take part in extracurricular activities as they play an active role in the Eastern Nazarene community.
Student Life Activities Include Service Projects that Contribute to the Community
Student life activities are planned and dynamic athletic programs are played within a Christian environment at Eastern Nazarene College. Though many students come to the college with a Nazarene background, more than thirty additional denominations are represented among the student body.
The Crusader teams of the athletics department are competitive Division III athletes in both men's and women's sports. For men, there is baseball, basketball, cross country, soccer, and tennis. Female students compete in basketball, cross country, soccer, tennis, volleyball, and softball. The college even has a ski race team that competes against other colleges in winter contests. Intramural sports supply another fun way for students to stay active with recreational athletics. The Student Government Association organizes many of the extracurricular and student life activities, including concerts and gatherings. Additional involvement opportunities exist with theater productions and student publications. Learning extends outside the classroom with lecture series that feature innovative thinkers from throughout the world.
The Eastern Nazarene College family enjoys its positive ties to the local community. Choral Union is a choir composed of both ENC students and area residents. Students at Eastern Nazarene also jump eagerly into student life projects that give back to various communities. Many of these projects include hands-on service for those in need, whether they are in a local neighborhood or across the country.
