From the College
The Art Institute of Dallas provides programs that help to prepare students for entry-level positions in the creative arts. Courses are taught by experienced faculty members in an environment that seeks to encourage expression, leadership, and responsible decision making. The Art Institute of Dallas offers nine bachelor’s degree programs, eight associate degree programs, and one certificate program.
The student population includes recent high school graduates, transfer students, and those who have left a previous employment situation to study and train for a new career. Students are creative, competitive, and open to new ideas. They place great value on an education that prepares them for an exciting entry-level position in the arts.
The Art Institute of Dallas is an international experience–one that is culturally diverse and creatively stimulating. Students attend the school from nearly forty countries. An international student adviser is available to assist students with their cultural adjustments and immigration matters.
The school provides students with employment assistance classes, individual employment assistance, and printed job-search information. Training includes job-search skills and interviewing techniques. Students can also receive portfolio counseling from The Art Institute of Dallas staff members.
Movie nights, sports activities, and field trips are part of The Art Institute of Dallas experience. Students can also get involved in the local area via community service opportunities. Through class projects and honors endeavors, students have assisted local charities in the development of their media campaigns. Numerous organizations are available for students to volunteer based on special interest areas.
Many students live at The Falls at Highpoint, a controlled-access apartment complex approximately 3 miles from The Art Institute of Dallas. Students may take advantage of value-priced food at the school’s Sunrise Deli.
The Art Institute of Dallas is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award associate degrees, baccalaureate degrees, and certificates. Location
The school is located in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, which has one of the lowest cost-of-living indexes of any major metropolitan area. The Dallas/Fort Worth area offers a diverse range of cultural and recreational activities, including the Dallas Symphony, Mesquite Rodeo, Six Flags, Lone Star Park, concerts in the West End, and national sports teams. Many major employers have relocated to the Dallas/Fort Worth area due to its positive economic environment.
Programs of Study and Degrees
The Art Institute of Dallas offers bachelor’s degree programs in advertising design, culinary management, digital filmmaking & video production, fashion & retail management, fashion design, graphic design, interior design, media arts & animation, and Web design & interactive media.
Associate degree programs include baking & pastry, culinary arts, fashion design, graphic design, kitchen & bath design, photography, restaurant & catering management, and video production.
The bachelor of fine arts in fashion design program, and graphic design, interior design, and culinary arts programs are available in an evening and weekend option format.
In addition, a certificate program is available in art of cooking.
Academic Programs
Associate degree programs can be completed as little as twenty-one months. Bachelor’s degree programs can be completed in as little as thirty-six months.
Academic Facilities
Computer labs offering PC and Macintosh computers are available for student use. The Art Institute of Dallas library supports the student community’s information and imaging needs. In 1996, the library was officially named for its founder and first librarian, Mildred M. Kelley. The library maintains a collection of more than 20,000 books, more than 4,000 periodical titles in both print and full-text electronic versions, 1,450 videotapes, 12,500 photographic slides, and 11,000 Visual Reference Cards. In addition, it provides reference services and instruction in the use of library services and facilities, electronic database searching, and research techniques.
The Academic Improvement Center provides tutoring services in the areas of general study skills, mathematics, writing, reading, and basic computer application skills. The center is open Monday through Friday and provides academic testing (ASSET, Learning Styles Assessment) on a weekly basis.

Costs
Tuition cost varies by program. Prospective students should contact the school for current tuition costs. Other charges include a starting kit for all first quarter students. Kits vary in price depending on the program of study.
Financial Aid
Financial aid is available for those who qualify. Students who require financial assistance should first complete and submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and meet with a financial aid officer.
Faculty
Led by an executive committee and a group of academic department directors, faculty members seek to deliver student-centered education, and curriculum content is regularly reviewed. There are full-time and part-time faculty members.
Student Government
The Student Ambassador Organization promotes high-quality representation of the student body. The group provides a channel of communication among students, the administration, and faculty members.
Admission Requirements
Applicants are required to write a paragraph of approximately 300 words stating how The Art Institute of Dallas may help them reach their creative goals. Applicants must present proof of high school graduation or a General Educational Development (GED) certificate as well as their accomplishments and core academic courses. Successful admission depends on QPA, accomplishments, SAT or ACT scores, and a personal interview with admission representatives. Applicants who do not submit a transcript of GED scores are required to take additional testing.
To enroll, students must submit an admission application and an enrollment agreement along with a $50 application fee.
