George Fox University's Reputation is Built On Intellectual Challenge and Spiritual Growth at a Christian College

George Fox University has grown in size and reputation over the past two decades. As undergraduate and graduate enrollment has grown past 3,200 students, "U.S. News & World Report" has moved George Fox into its "national university" category. In its Best American Colleges report, Forbes.com ranks George Fox highest among Christian colleges on the West Coast. In addition to more than thirty undergraduate programs, the university and its seminary offer master's and doctoral degrees in business, psychology, education, counseling, theology, and ministry. As part of the university's effort to enhance teaching, learning, and research, George Fox provides each traditional undergraduate student with a MacBook laptop computer to use and keep upon graduation.

Study-Abroad, Volunteer, and Service Opportunities Offered at George Fox's Pacific Northwest Campus in Newberg, Oregon

The 85-acre tree-shaded campus in Newberg, Oregon, is 23 miles from the major metropolitan environment of Portland, Oregon. The slopes of Mt. Hood and the rugged Pacific coastline are within short driving distances of the university's location in the beautiful Pacific Northwest,.

Every fall, the university closes campus for its annual Serve Day and sends nearly 1,500 students, professors, and staff members into the local communities to do volunteer service at Pacific Northwest parks, senior citizen homes, churches, government agencies, and nonprofit organizations. Students annually volunteer thousands of hours in service throughout Oregon. They also use their winter, spring, and summer breaks to volunteer locally and internationally on school-sponsored service trips.

More than two-thirds of George Fox's traditional undergraduates leave Newberg to study internationally before graduating, ranking the university number 20 out of 1,400 American colleges in study-abroad participation. Each year during May Term, George Fox sponsors three-week study-abroad tours led by university faculty members. Transportation costs are subsidized by the university. These international learning experiences are designed for students completing their junior year. Through the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities, students are also given the opportunity to study for a semester in Africa, Australia, China, Costa Rica, England, Latin America, Spain, France, the Middle East, Russia, and Washington, D.C.

Extracurricular Activities, NCAA and Intramural Sports, Financial Aid, and Scholarships Are Available for Students

The majority of George Fox undergraduate students live in campus residence halls, suites, and apartments. Opportunities for extracurricular involvement are available in music, drama, journalism, student government, radio, various clubs, and sports. George Fox is a member of NCAA Division III and competes in seven men's sports (baseball, basketball, cross-country, golf, soccer, tennis, and track) and eight women's sports (basketball, cross-country, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, track, and volleyball). The baseball and women's basketball teams have recently won NCAA national titles. The university also offers a robust intramural sports program involving league sports and single-day tournaments.

George Fox offers bachelor's degrees in accounting, allied health, applied science, art, athletic training, biblical studies, biology, business administration, chemistry, Christian ministries, cinema and media communication, cognitive science, communications arts, computer and information science, economics, elementary education, engineering, family and consumer sciences, health and human performance, history, interdisciplinary studies, international studies, mathematics, music, music education, nursing, organizational communication, philosophy, political science, psychology, religion, social work, sociology, Spanish, theater, and writing/literature. Financial aid and scholarships are readily available to students at George Fox University. Scholarships are offered for academics, talent, and need. More than 90 percent of students receive some form of financial aid, with the average financial aid package being more than $20,000. The admissions staff works closely with family and administrators to ensure that all financial aid is appropriately allocated and that all questions are answered before commitments are made.
