Allied Health, Business and Professional Studies, Human Services Programs All Benefit from Internships and Work Study
Harcum's academic programs are diverse and fall under three main centers: the Center for Allied Health, the Center for Business and Professional Studies, and the Center for Human Services. In addition, there is the School of Continuing and Professional Studies, which includes an evening/weekend college, and the Center for International Studies, which includes the English Language Academy.
Harcum College offers certificates and associate degrees in various majors, so students can be working in excellent jobs after just two years in nursing, dental assisting, medical lab tech, vet tech and other programs. In addition, there are many majors beyond the allied health arena such as legal studies, business, fashion design, human services, and general studies. From sports management and psychology to the visual and performing arts, Harcum has something for every student.
The Career and Transfer Services staff assists students in preparing for a four-year institution. Harcum students have been accepted by more than 200 colleges and universities nationwide and abroad. Harcum has close relationships with many colleges and a number of articulation agreements with four-year colleges, whereby credit is seamlessly transferred to the four-year institution.
Most of Harcum's programs require an internship as part of the curriculum. Students spend a period of time gaining valuable work experience in a workplace appropriate to their program, where they apply the knowledge they have acquired in the classroom. Many students subsequently receive job offers from their internship sponsors.
Special Programs, Services, and Counseling Help Students Learn, Succeed, Achieve, and Grow as Students and Individuals
The college offers a number of special programs to assist students in succeeding at college. Summer Advance is a five-week summer program that gives students an opportunity to adjust to college life with help in reading, writing, math, and other areas. Achieving Individual Motivation for Success (AIM) develops academic and personal skills, career plans, and lifelong learning tools for students with disabilities or economic disadvantages, or who are first-generation college attendees.
The English Language Academy offers full- and part-time instruction in English as a second language. The Developmental Program provides courses to strengthen skills in English, math, and reading. Independent study is offered for students who want to study a topic that deeply interests them. The Center for Student Development and Counseling offers personal and individualized career and academic counseling.
Harcum's School of Continuing and Professional Studies offers programs year-round for professional development and personal enrichment. Continuing Education Units (CEU) may be earned in the dental and veterinary fields and many others related to Harcum's degree programs. Other popular programs include the pharmacy technician training course and the phlebotomy technician training course. Harcum College offers flexible scheduling in the evenings and on weekends and a large selection of Internet degree programs and courses. The college also offers a leadership development degree at a reduced tuition rate at ten off-site locations.
Full-time Directors and Teachers, Practicing Professionals as Adjunct Instructors, and Top Tech Tools Add Up to Success
All of Harcum's programs are led by full-time directors and have full-time professors. Their expertise is augmented by part-time adjunct instructors, who usually are practicing professionals in their fields. Technology is employed in the teaching of interactive courses in Harcum's "smart" classrooms. There are 35 full-time faculty members, and eighty percent of full-time faculty members have advanced degrees, including 13 percent who hold doctorates. The student-faculty ratio is 15:1.
A Growing School and Serious Presence in the NJCAA, Harcum Is Building a Proud Sports Tradition for Men and Women
Men's and women's basketball, men's and women's track and field, women's volleyball, and cheerleading are all in full swing, with energy and expertise, at Harcum. Since admitting men in 2003, Harcum College has a growing and robust athletics operation. Its new men's basketball team went 20-11 in its first season (2005 - 2006), and won the regional championship in 2007 with a regular-season record of 30 and 2. Its women's basketball team has won nearly 80 games in its first three seasons, and has never lost a home contest. The school also offers intercollegiate athletics in women's volleyball and co-educational track and field (National Junior College Athletic Association, Division II, Region 19).

More than 90 percent of students at Harcum receive some form of financial aid. Available aid includes Harcum grants-in-aid, scholarships, Federal Pell Grants, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants, state grants, Federal Perkins Loans, Federal Work-Study Program awards, and Federal Family Education Loan Programs including the Federal Subsidized and Unsubsidized Stafford Loans and Federal PLUS Loans.
Student Housing, Special Services, Getting Around Town, Safety on Campus - Harcum Is a Great Place to Live and Grow
Harcum gives students full support throughout their time at the college and ensures a safe, secure campus and learning environment. In Harcum's counseling department, counselors give a hand with everything from advice on balancing a schedule to resolving a personal problem. The college also has academic tutors to help students with course work.
Students at Harcum have the option of living on campus in one of two suite-style residence halls, which offers a great way to make friends and be involved in campus life. The residence life staff plans programs and events. Students feel at home at Harcum College - even the students who commute say they do not feel like outsiders. Harcum is a small community, and students quickly find that they recognize friendly faces across the campus.
Harcum College is located near but not in a big city. It is in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, 12 miles west of Philadelphia. Harcum is a small, safe campus in a beautiful area on the Main Line, a string of attractive, secure, friendly suburban communities. The campus is on a park-like 12-acre site next to a commuter railroad station, which makes travel to Philadelphia and throughout the area easy. Bus service, bicycles, and car pools mean students have plenty of options for travel in and around the campus and the town.
Cultural amenities available in Philadelphia are the world-renowned Philadelphia Orchestra and the famous Philadelphia Museum of Art. The city has major-league teams in baseball, football, ice hockey, and basketball. There are also numerous historic sites in and around Philadelphia to visit, including Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell.
With a quick train trip or leisurely drive, New York stands ready to offer another dimension of excitement, entertainment, recreation, or culture, and the whole East Coast is easily accessible for breaks and vacations.
