Miami International University of Art & Design provides programs that prepare graduates to pursue entry-level employment in the creative arts. Programs are developed with and taught by experienced educators. The school offers twelve bachelor’s degree programs, three associate degree programs, and four master’s degree programs.

The Career Services Department works with students to refine their presentations to potential employers. The department also helps provide student advisers with insight into each student’s specialized skills and interests. Specific career advising occurs during the last two quarters of a student’s education. Interviewing techniques and resume-writing skills are taught, and students receive portfolio advising from faculty members.

Students come to Miami International University of Art & Design from throughout the United States and abroad.

The student population includes recent high school graduates, transfer students, and those who have left a previous employment situation to study and train for a new career. Students are creative, competitive, and open to new ideas. They place great value on an education that prepares them for an exciting entry-level position in the arts.

Miami International University of Art & Design places high importance on student life, both inside and outside the classroom. The school provides an environment that encourages involvement in a wide variety of activities, including clubs and organizations, community service opportunities, and various committees designed to enhance the quality of student life. Numerous all-school programs and events are planned throughout the year to meet students’ needs.

The Student Affairs Department offers a variety of services to students to help them make the most of their educational experience. These services include both school-sponsored and independent housing options.

Location

Miami is a culturally rich region that celebrates events year-round, including the African-American Heritage Festival, Haitian Heritage Week, the Viva Mexico Celebration, the Israel Independence Celebration, and Asian Cultural Week. The city is home to professional sports teams, and residents enjoy the sandy beaches, international cuisine, local clubs, the historic Art Deco District, Coral Gables, and Key Biscayne. The Florida Keys, Disney World, and the Bahamas are all just a short trip away.

Programs of Study and Degrees

Bachelor’s degree programs are available in advertising, audio production, computer animation, fashion design, fashion merchandising, film & digital production, graphic design, interior design, photography, visual & entertainment arts, visual effects & motion graphics, and Web design &interactive media.

Associate degrees are available in accessory design, fashion design, and fashion merchandising.

Master’s degree programs are offered in film, graphic design, interior design, and visual arts.

Academic Programs

Miami International University of Art & Design operates on a year-round, quarterly basis. Each quarter totals eleven weeks. Bachelor’s degree programs are twelve quarters in length.

Academic Facilities

Miami International University of Art & Design is located within a 60,000-square-foot academic and administration building. The facility includes industry-related equipment, a painting and sculpture studio, a production facility, and an editing facility. There are also interior design and fashion resource rooms.

Admission Requirements

Applicants must provide proof of high school graduation or achievement of a General Educational Development (GED) certificate as a prerequisite for admission. In lieu of documenting high school graduation or a GED certificate, applicants may provide proof of attaining an associate degree or higher from an accredited institution. An official transcript indicating date of high school graduation, GED certificate (including test scores), or date of college graduation (including degree granted) is required as proof.

All individuals seeking admission to the school are interviewed in person or by phone by an assistant director of admissions, and each applicant must create an original essay of at least 150 words stating how an education at Miami International University of Art & Design would help the student to achieve career goals. There is a $50 application fee.
