Marywood University in Scranton, Pennsylvania, is a comprehensive, coeducational, Catholic university of 3,300 full-time, part-time, and adult students, with more than ninety undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral degree programs. Established in 1915 by the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, the university boasts a national award-winning campus considered one of the most beautiful in the northeast. In recent years, Marywood has made $100 million in improvements to campus, including new athletic, residence hall, and dining facilities, and Scranton is now home to one of the finest studio arts facilities in the region as a result of this effort. Marywood University offers the safety and charm of small-city living due to its location in Scranton, but the school is within drivable distance of the best the Northeast has to offer, including New York City and Philadelphia, both of which are within two hours.

Popular programs are those in the visual and studio arts, education, nursing, nutrition and dietetics, and a multitude of preprofessional areas. In fall 2009, the university welcomed its first students into the newly formed School of Architecture - the first to open in northeast Pennsylvania. In keeping with Marywood University's tradition of educating students to live responsibly in an interdependent world, the School of Architecture was created to produce a new generation of architects - environmental stewards who will assume major responsibility for the built environment of the region, the nation, and the world. Marywood University Offers Four Undergraduate Colleges, Skilled Faculty Members, and Opportunities for Study Abroad
Marywood University's four undergraduate colleges offer seven bachelor's degrees across twenty-one areas of study. In addition to its numerous undergraduate programs, Marywood offers five-year bachelor's-to-master's programs in eight areas, allowing students to complete their studies in less time. These programs help students save money on tuition costs and enter the workforce sooner. Five-year programs include architecture, biotechnology, communication arts, criminal justice, financial information systems, health services administration, physician assistant, and speech-language pathology.
Faculty members, grounded in professional practice and skilled in the art of teaching, include highly respected practitioners, industry professionals, and visionary educators. Their achievements have been recognized nationally and internationally, and they continue to impact their professions through research, practice, and educational contributions. Eighty-four percent of Marywood's full-time faculty members hold the most advanced degrees in their field.
Study abroad can be tailored to individual comfort levels, so students get exactly what they want from the experience. The amount of time spent away from campus can range from a few weeks in the summer to an entire academic year. Students can choose to live with host families, among foreign students, or surrounded by other Americans. Programs are modestly priced, and scholarships and financial aid are also available.
Marywood's resident and commuter students participate in more than eighty student groups, activities, student publications, honor societies, fourteen intercollegiate athletic teams, numerous club sports, and intramural activities. Students make good use of the Robert J. Mellow Center for Athletics and Wellness, which includes a 5,000-square-foot fitness center, a 2,000-square-foot dance/aerobics studio, an indoor arena, and an elevated track. Approximately 1,000 students reside on campus in the university¿s eight residence halls, small living units, and townhouse apartments, including Loughran Hall, newly renovated in 2006. Residential units include coeducational and single-gender options. The dining services unit on the Scranton campus offers flexible meal-plan options to meet the individual needs of students.
