Monmouth University is located in West Long Branch, New Jersey. With New York City only a hour to the north, Atlantic City an hour to the south, and the Jersey Shore less than a mile to the east, West Long Branch is in a great location for recreation and learning. On breaks students can easily cruise to Manhattan via catamarans, the ferry, or the more traditional bus services.
The home of the Guggenheim Library and Woodrow Wilson Hall, West Long Branch has a population of just over 8,000. It is also close to many other historic communities, recreational areas, and public parks. Students of Monmouth University enjoy attractions such as the historic Count Basie Theater, built in 1926 and drawing more than 130,000 visitors every year; Red Bank's annual music and film festivals; and many art galleries, unique shops, and eateries. There is even thoroughbred racing nearby at the Monmouth Park Race Track, which sports great picnicking and many free activities.
West Long Branch also has more than thirty conservation properties, recreation areas, historic sites, wetlands, gardens, forests, and marine habitats accessible in its immediate area whose properties total more than 14,000 acres. The nearby Jersey Shore gives students of Monmouth fantastic opportunities for sun, sand, surf, and fun on a New Jersey boardwalk.
Monmouth University Offers Majors and Degrees in Small Classes with Active Learning in Six Undergraduate Schools
The Monmouth University campus in West Long Branch is considered one of the most aesthetically attractive campuses in New Jersey, with more than fifty buildings built in a blend of modern and traditional architectural styles. This private, accredited, medium-sized university was founded in 1933 and serves commuter and residential students. Monmouth University's safe and secure 156-acre campus includes several historic landmarks and cutting-edge facilities. Students get high-quality academic programs, excellent student-faculty ratios (15:1) in small classes featuring active learning, and professors who are experts in their fields. Furthermore, Monmouth University is situated in the hub of a contemporary and lively business region, giving graduates a multitude of employment opportunities right outside their doorstep.
Monmouth University is composed of six undergraduate schools: the Leon Hess Business School; the School of Social Work; the School of Science, Technology, and Engineering; the Marjorie K. Unterberg School of Nursing and Health Studies; the Wayne D. McMurray School of Humanities and Social Sciences; and the School of Education. Innovative undergraduate majors and concentrations include marine science, software engineering, and music industry production. Recently added majors include Spanish/international business, health studies, and theater arts. The most popular majors are business, education, communication, and psychology. Regardless of their majors, highly qualified students may be invited to join the Honors School. When the Graduate School is also considered, Monmouth offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in more than fifty majors and concentrations, all with favorable student-faculty ratios.

With a population of more than 4,700 undergraduates and close to 2,000 graduate students, Monmouth University is a rich blend of cultures and ethnicities. Although most students are from New Jersey and the Northeast, a total of twenty-five states and twenty-eight nations are represented in its student body in West Long Branch. Student life within the wide-ranging Monmouth community celebrates itself with cultural events, festivals, active student clubs, and school- and student-run organizations that reflect its school spirit. Monmouth students are the energy of the campus.
Monmouth offers its students numerous opportunities to get involved in student life on campus with more than sixty-five student-run organizations, including clubs, sororities, fraternities, societies, honor societies, publications, media outlets, and governing bodies. Some of the more popular activities and organizations around campus include Monmouth's radio station (WMCX), the university's student-run newspaper ("The Outlook"), Hawk TV, performances and concerts in Pollak Theater, first-run movies, and many special events.
Monmouth University has several styles of residence halls from which students may choose. There are five suite-style halls, two traditional halls, three quasi-traditional halls, three apartment buildings, and three university-sponsored housing complexes available on campus. More than 1,500 students live in university housing on campus and about 200 residents live off campus. All residence buildings are locked 24 hours a day and guests must be signed in by a resident during evening hours.
