Northern Kentucky University Offers Over Seventy Degree Programs to Turn Today's Students Into Tomorrow's Leaders

Northern Kentucky University (NKU) was founded in 1968. Located in the Cincinnati metropolitan area, the four-year public university's bustling suburban campus is actually in Highland Heights, Kentucky. To better serve its more than 15,000 students and 2,400 faculty and staff members, NKU opened a $37-million, 144,000-square-foot student union building and a $60-million, 9,400-seat arena, The Bank of Kentucky Center, in 2008.

The University enrolls students from more than forty states and some ninety countries. NKU has small classes and a lively, interactive learning environment. Its engaging and challenging curriculum, taught by a committed and involved faculty that offers personal attention, the university offers more than seventy programs that result in degrees ranging from the associate to a master's; professional certifications are also offered.

The NKU community works together to extend the quest for knowledge and the love of learning from the classroom and the campus to the surrounding communities, then to the world. With courses taught by professors, not teaching assistants, and with an average class size of 24 students, students at NKU reap the benefits of a premier education delivered in a personalized style. With these small classes and a student-faculty ratio of 14:1, the esteemed and dedicated faculty members have the time to get to know the students and their unique needs. Outstanding students at all levels have the opportunity to conduct hands-on research with professors. Between the full range of degree programs at the associate, bachelor's, and master's levels and the professional certifications that are available, NKU offers students many ways to achieve their dreams, find fulfilling careers, and live productive lives. NKU is proud of its special professional programs as well as its various fine arts offerings. The B.S.N. degree is offered in the nursing major and the B.S.W. degree in the social work major, while the B.F.A. degree is granted in art and in theater arts. The B.Mus. degree is offered in music.

Thirteen Competitive NCAA Division II Teams and a Comprehensive Intramural Program Help Keep Students Fit and Involved

Yet another indicator of the university's stature is its record in the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Valley Conference, where its thirteen varsity athletic teams compete. In addition, intercollegiate sports are available for men and women in basketball, cheerleading, cross-country, golf, soccer, and tennis. Baseball is a men's team, while fast-pitch softball and volleyball belong to the women. Intramural games and schedules change through the year, but include dodge ball, softball, Tae Kwan Do, field hockey, basketball, ice hockey, racquetball, flag football, volleyball, and many others.
