Norwich University is a military college where traditional students and military cadets both share the same campus. This creates a unique college environment with a high amount of structure, and an emphasis on leadership that extends beyond the confines of the classroom.
Cadets and regular students share the same classes, same dining halls, same recreational centers, and same student activities and clubs, infusing daily life on campus with a focus on military values such as discipline, confidence, and loyalty. Norwich students learn critical thinking and integrity through a rigorous academic environment designed to be challenging.
Military colleges have a proud history at Norwich, which is the birthplace of the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program. Norwich houses all four branches of the armed service: Army, Navy, Marines, and Air Force. The Corps of Cadets program allows students to gain military experience while earning a degree, in an environment that encourages personal growth and responsibility.

Students are expected to participate in campus life, whether volunteering for a community service program, joining a student organization, or simply enjoying campus events planned by the Activities Council.
Norwich University is located in the scenic Green Mountains of Vermont, providing the perfect setting for students who enjoy the outdoors. While Vermont is most famous for its skiing, students can also enjoy snowboarding, snowshoeing, rock climbing, hiking, mountain biking, canoeing, kayaking, and more. For students seeking more metropolitan experiences, weekend road trips to nearby Montreal and Boston are not uncommon.
Traditional Students at Norwich University Earn Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science Degrees in 30 Majors
In addition to the military training for the corps of cadets, Norwich offers over 30 academic majors from which traditional students can choose. The Bachelor of Arts degree is awarded in communications; criminal justice; English; history; international studies; peace, war, and diplomacy studies; political science; and psychology.
The Bachelor of Science degree is awarded in accounting, athletic training, biochemistry, biology, chemistry, civil/environmental engineering, communications, computer engineering, computer information systems, computer science, computer security and information assurance, economics, electrical engineering, engineering management, environmental science, geology, international studies, management, mathematics, mechanical engineering, physical education, physics, sports medicine, and studies in war and peace.
Teacher licensure, pre-law, pre-medical, and pre-dental programs are also available.
The Corps of Cadets at Norwich University Prepares Students for Careers as Well-Educated Military Officers
The Corps of Cadets program is designed for students who wish to join the military and are planning military careers. Structured military lifestyle combined with rigorous academics provides a strong leadership background for students who join the ROTC program -- a requirement for members of the Corps of Cadets. Cadets participate in military labs and physical training, choosing to enroll in the Army, Air Force, Navy, or Marine Corps ROTC program.
Norwich cadets confront challenges on a daily basis, learning self-confidence, discipline, loyalty, responsibility, and the importance of supporting their fellow cadets in pursuit of a common goal. The Corps of Cadets program allows students to gain military experience and become leaders while also earning an academic degree.
Students enrolled in the ROTC programs are instructed in the principles of military, aerospace, and naval science; develop professional knowledge in these fields; build attitudes of integrity, honor, and individual responsibility; and are given an appreciation of national security requirements. Upon graduation, students will be ready to be commissioned into the military as well-educated officers and leaders.
Norwich University Offers a Number of Student Clubs that Promote Confidence, Loyalty, Responsibility, and Leadership
While students are understandably heavily involved in military organizations, there are a number of other student clubs at Norwich, ranging from athletics to volunteer programs. The student organizations at Norwich promote the same values emphasized in the classroom and military programs: confidence, dependability, initiative, loyalty, responsibility, and leadership.
Students may join the Student Senate or chair various events to take leadership roles. Athletics are very popular, especially the football program. Students with a penchant for artistic expression may join the Campus Choraleers, the Grenadiers Jazz Ensemble, or even the annual student musical. Students who wish to gain media experience may work for the campus newspaper or campus radio station. In addition, many community service opportunities abound, from the Toys for Tots drive to the Montpelier AIDS walk.
