Academics at Rosemont College
Originally founded in 1921 on the Sinnott estate, Rosemont College has a rich history and primarily Gothic, and stunning, architecture. The 56-acre campus is located just 11 miles west of Philadelphia's buzzing metropolis. This private, Catholic college has a student body of almost 500 undergraduate full-time students, 219 part-time students, and 1,000 graduate students, with a student to faculty ratio of about eight to one.
Rosemont College is comprised of three schools: the School of Continuing Studies, the School of Graduate Studies, and the Undergraduate Women's College. Unlike the schools for continuing and graduate studies, the Undergraduate Women's College is not coed, which contributes to the college's overwhelmingly female population. Rosemont offers its students over 20 degrees, including such popular undergraduate areas of study as English literature/letters and language, psychology, social sciences, marketing, business management, visual arts, and performing arts.
Comfortable accommodations in Rosemont College's four residence halls are available for students. Connelly Hall provides upperclassman housing with suites, double, or private bedrooms available. Rooms offer semi-private baths, shared kitchenettes and living spaces, and air conditioning. Heffernan Hall and Mayfield Hall also provide upperclassman housing; Heffernan offers single and double rooms and study lounges, while Mayfield Hall offers mainly single rooms with a handful of double rooms available. Kaul Hall is used for first-year student housing and has a large study lounge on each floor.
Rosemont College Campus Life and Services
Rosemont College campus life is designed to provide its students with opportunities to become informed, active community members. Activities extend over a wide variety of academic and culturally based organizations and athletic events.
Organizations and clubs include the Film Critics Guild, Pre-Law Society, Book Club, Italian Club, French Club, Rosemont Activities Council, Pre Health Club, Organization of African American Students, Muslim Student Association, Jest and Gestures Society, Irish Heritage Society, Student Government, Campus Women for Christ, and Association of Latin American Students.
Rosemont College athletics are competitive, offering NCAA varsity sports teams in basketball, field hockey, lacrosse, softball, tennis, volleyball, and soccer. Teams in basketball and tennis are offered for men and women, soccer is offered for men only, and the others are offered for women only.
The Rosemont College campus enhances students' experience by offering a variety of state-of-the-art facilities and resources. For academics, global curriculum classrooms have Wi-Fi capabilities and Sympodium, which is a multimedia unit comprised of an LCD projector, computer, wall-mounted sound system, VCR, and DVD player. In addition, the Gertrude Kistler Memorial Library hosts TRELLIS, an advanced information system. For student life, Rosemont provides the Women's Center, complete with Internet access, meeting spaces, and TV and movie viewing areas, and the Wellness Center, a student health center that treats illness and injury as well as promotes health awareness and personal wellness.
