About Samford University
Samford University is a Baptist-affiliated, four-year, private, coeducational institute of higher education located in Birmingham, Alabama. Samford University serves close to 5,000 undergraduate students, and employs a little over 400 faculty members; it has an 11:1 student to faculty ratio and no classes are taught by graduate assistants. Students at Samford University hail from 19 countries and 39 U.S. states, providing a culturally diverse atmosphere. Furthermore, U.S. News and World Report ranked Samford University in the top tier for national doctoral research universities.
Majors and Degree Offerings at Samford
Samford University, Alabama, offers 138 undergraduate minors, majors, and concentrations. Some of the most popular degrees are in communications, art, arts and sciences, business, education, law, prelaw, nursing, marketing, and public relations (PR).
These courses of study are spread across eight academic schools including the Ida v. Moffett School of Nursing, McWhorter School of Pharmacy, Cumberland School of Law, Orlean Bullard Beeson School of Education, Beeson Divinity School, Brock School of Business, Howard College of Arts and Sciences, and the School of Art.
Samford Campus Facilities
Samford University, in Birmingham, Alabama, provides on-campus housing and meal plans, which includes 19 meals per week. Campus facilities include the Beeson University Center, which is the hub of activity on campus; a bookstore; Career Development Center; counseling services; disability support services; dining hall; and a post office.
Financial Aid
Samford University provides its students with numerous opportunities to procure financial aid both through need and merit-based scholarships, private and federal loans, federal and state grants, and federal work programs and opportunities. Students who would like to apply for financial aid must fill out a FAFSA; priority date for filers is March 1 annually.
Student Life
Samford University in Alabama offers its students over 100 campus clubs and organizations including intramural sports, theater and drama, volunteer, and ministries. Intramural programs are available for sports including bowling, flag football, volleyball, basketball, soccer, softball, tennis, kickball, dodge ball, and ultimate Frisbee.
Every year students also participate in numerous campus-wide events including Family Weekend, held annually in the fall; Homecoming, which includes a bonfire, fireworks, spirit rallies, parade, tailgate parties, a football game and other athletics events, Homecoming Court elections and presentation, alumni of the year presentations, and concerts; Miss Samford Scholarship Pageant; Samford Speakers Series; Spring Fling; and Step Sing.
Samford's Career Development Center
The Career Development Center (CDC) is meant to assist current students and Samford graduates with numerous career and job search activities. Career counselors help students identify and evaluate areas of interest for a major course of study and/or career choices. Furthermore, Samford University provides its students with career guidance instruments to assist in this process.
The Career Development Center offers numerous tools and information for career research, graduate and professional school research, job search, experiential education research, company research, and other topical information related to careers.
Each semester, Samford University's Career Development Center sponsors programs for a wide variety of career development topics. Staff members assist students with career search concerns; graduate school representatives and employers visit Samford University campus to interview and recruit students.
Samford University's Career Development Center is a connective link between employers and students so that students can find part-time, summer, cooperative education, internship, and full-time positions. Samford University also maintains job listings for these areas. Samford University's Career Development Center services are provided free of charge to all current Samford students and recent alumni.
