Academics, Research, Sports, and Location Draw Students to California's San Diego State University

Established in 1897, San Diego State University's (SDSU) student body of 30,000 makes it the third-largest university in southern California. SDSU offers more than eighty bachelor's degrees, over seventy master's degrees, and some fifteen doctoral degrees. With all those degree programs, it is no wonder that one in seven adults in San Diego who holds a college degree attended SDSU. The most well known of SDSU's academic programs include biology, education, international business, psychology, public administration, social work, and women's studies. SDSU is known for being very active in research. The university has received numerous awards for its research and regularly attracts millions of dollars in external research grants and program contracts.

With connections to more than 190 international programs, more students at SDSU participate in study-abroad programs than at any other university in California. Visiting more than forty countries, including Australia, Japan, Mexico, Singapore, and Spain, more than 1,400 students study abroad each year. Even with all those students away from campus, there are over 200 students organizations at SDSU, and students volunteer more than 3 million hours in the community each year.

San Diego State University's student life is very integrated and social. A variety of on-campus living-learning communities allow students to combine their social life with their academic life by placing them in living quarters with community members who are enrolled in complimentary programs, such as social justice, service, career exploration, and multiculturalism.

Students at San Diego State University have an vivacious school spirit that is evident at any of the Aztec games. SDSU offers its students an assortment of athletic opportunities--competitive, recreational, and spectator. From its NCAA Division I teams to recreational pools and hydrotherapy spas for student and community use, San Diego State University has it all available.
