SUNY Oswego Provides a Liberal Arts Education with an Interdisciplinary Approach, and Valuable Hands-On Experience

SUNY Oswego is part of the State University of New York system, offering a scenic campus of nearly 700 acres on the southern shore of Lake Ontario. Students at SUNY Oswego learn in a dynamic and supportive environment with a large and diverse community of students.

Over 8,200 members of the campus community broaden their learning horizons through 110 different programs of study. Students receive a quality liberal arts education, as well as gaining valuable hands-on experience through various programs.

SUNY Oswego offers a supportive environment in which students can become part of the community, taking courses from various academic areas in order to cross traditional disciplinary boundaries and receive a broad, multidisciplinary liberal arts education. These innovative programs help Oswego students prepare for the future.

SUNY Oswego Helps Incoming Students Settle into a Diverse Community Where Personal Connections Are Created

SUNY Oswego is one of dozens of SUNY campuses, but offers a uniquely scenic location. Oswego's campus is surrounded by trees and offers plenty of space for students to find valuable experiences outside of the classroom. First-year students receive a number of special orientation programs to help them adjust to life on the college campus, ranging from a universal new student orientation, to personal faculty advisers and peer advisers assigned to each student.

Students interested in further integrating their first year into their academic life can take special FirstChoice programs with small classes designed for incoming students, ranging from service learning exploration to life skills classes.

Students live in one of eleven residence halls, including the special First-Year Residential Experience hall where students live together and work together, from special freshman seminar courses to hall council meetings. These programs help new students to make connections with other students, learn more about college, and prepare for both academic and social success.

SUNY Oswego Offers Over 100 Programs of Study in Business, Education, Communication and Media, and Liberal Arts

SUNY Oswego is divided into four main schools and allows students to earn the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.), Bachelor of Science (B.S.), and Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) degrees.

The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences offers American studies, anthropology, applied mathematical economics, biochemistry, biology, chemistry, cinema and screen studies, cognitive science, computer science, creative writing, economics, English, French, geochemistry, geology, German, global and international studies, history, human development, information science, language and international trade, linguistics, mathematics, meteorology, philosophy, philosophy-psychology, physics, political science, psychology, public justice, sociology, software engineering, Spanish, women's studies, and zoology.

The School of Business offers degree programs in accounting, business administration, finance, human resource management, management accounting, marketing, and operations management and information systems.

The School of Communication, Media, and the Arts offers degrees in art, broadcasting, communication, graphic design, journalism, music, public relations, and theater.

The School of Education offers Bachelor of Science degrees in adolescence education, childhood education, teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL), technology education, technology management, vocational-teacher preparation, and wellness management.

Special programs also allow students to combine bachelor's and master's degree programs in subjects ranging from business administration to medical technology, in cooperation with other colleges and universities.

Oswego Students Learn Outside the Classroom in Over 150 Student Organizations, and NCAA Division III Sports

SUNY Oswego has over 150 student organizations of all types, ranging from academic special interest clubs to social and cultural celebratory organizations. Students can involve themselves in performing arts including theatre, music, and dance. Campus-wide events are regularly organized, including films, art exhibitions, and open discussions. Students are encouraged to become engaged in the community, whether writing for student publications, working with community service groups, or joining a sorority or fraternity.

At SUNY Oswego, students learn as much outside the classroom as they do in class. Student organizations not only build friendships but encourage active learning and promote leadership and responsibility. In order to support the personal growth that student clubs can create, the Student Senate and Student Association have a budget of over one million dollars to help Oswego serve student needs.

Oswego believes in fostering student-athletes, and competes in the NCAA Division III in 24 sports, including cross country, field hockey, golf, soccer, tennis, ice hockey, track and field, basketball, swimming and diving, wrestling, baseball, lacrosse, and softball.

Oswego Gives Students the Hands-On Experience and Valuable Internships Needed to Develop Practical Career Skills

Oswego offers numerous opportunities for students to experience hands-on learning to develop practical skills. The Career Awareness program guides students in search of career goals. Service learning allows students to benefit the local community while gaining practical experience.

Internships off campus give students hands-on experience developing skills that will help them find jobs after college. The Office of Experience-Based Education offers numerous internships, and past students have worked everywhere from the Buffalo Zoo to the Internal Revenue Service to Walt Disney World.

SUNY Oswego Offers Affordable Tuition with Available Financial Aid, So Students Can Prepare for Successful Careers

As a public university, Oswego has more affordable tuition than many colleges. Still, most students receive some sort of financial aid, through merit scholarships, grants, loans, scholarships, and work study programs. Oswego alumni have gone on to successful careers in television, journalism, writing, and much more.
