Purchase is located just 20 miles north of Manhattan in Westchester County in the great state of New York, and the campus is a more-than-500-acre estate that was settled in 1734. Commonly called the "city within the country," visitors immediately note the many buildings, meadows, and rolling hills, and outdoor sculptures spread throughout the campus grounds.
The campus of Purchase College also serves as home to the Neuberger Museum of Art, which attracts many visitors on an annual basis, as well as provides educational material for students. The museum features modern, contemporary, and African art forms as both a permanent collection and seasonal feature exhibits. Also included on campus is the Performing Arts Center, which hosts public events for charity and non-profits, as well as student and national acts for regular entertainment options.
Students enjoy full access to a gym which caters to any fitness program with an Olympic pool, basketball courts, rock-climbing wall, bowling alley, diving well, racquetball, and aerobics studio. After a hard workout, several dining options on campus fulfill a variety of tastes, as well. The Hub in Campus Center North is a popular hotspot, as well as the Ritazza Café for coffee and pastries. Students also have the choice of enrolling in the School of Natural and Social Sciences, the School of Humanities, or the School of the Arts.
The most popular programs exist in the School of Arts and include conservatory of dance, conservatory of music, conservatory of theatre arts and film, or art and design. Application for many of these programs typically requires auditions in addition to standard applications and transcripts, SAT scores, and samples of prior work for art programs.
Purchase SUNY Provides Continuing Education Programs for Credit and Non-Credit Programs through Summer Sessions
In addition to the popular programs that lead to the award of a BFA, Purchase College offers several continuing education options for those students who already hold a bachelor's degree or have completed some post-secondary courses. Many students also choose to take advantage of these special classes and summer sessions to expand upon their base courses and pursue additional interests to allow for very specific career goals.
The liberal studies B.A. degree completion program, liberal studies extension site, and certificate and pre-medical programs are all part of these special offerings. The pre-medical studies program caters to students who already hold a B.S. or B.A. degree, but need to complete additional science courses to fulfill prerequisites for medical, dental, veterinary, or other allied health professional schools.
Other credit and non-credit programs are available in arts management, early childhood development, and interior design to coordinate with students' long-term educational and career goals.
