Tiffin Delivers a Professional, Private University Education with Affordable Tuition
Even as a private institution, Tiffin University is committed to providing students with affordable tuition. Tiffin ranks as one of Ohio's most affordable, private colleges. Students receive the advantages of a private university's personalized attention, smaller class sizes, and top-notch faculty, while the majority of applicants also receive some form of financial aid. Tiffin understands most students will need some type of financial aid for tuition and expenses, even while attending a private university with more affordable tuition rates. At Tiffin, students can receive information on various financial avenues. The Financial Aid Office helps students obtain the maximum financial aid resources they are qualified to receive.
Grants and scholarships are types of financial aid that students do not have to repay. These are available through a number of sources. Students may apply for university scholarships that are based on merit, academics, athletics, activities, or professional affiliations. For example, students who take part in Tiffin performing arts programs may receive substantial scholarships for participation, regardless of their major.
Government and private loans for educational expenses must be repaid, though some may be deferred until after graduation. Some students may be eligible for part-time employment opportunities through the Federal College Work-Study program. Placement in this on-campus program is based on job availability. The international student also will find special financial aid opportunities.
Criminal Justice and Business Programs Prepare Students for a Variety of Careers
The School of Criminal Justice and Social Sciences encompasses the criminal justice programs of corrections, forensic psychology, forensic science, homeland security/terrorism, government and national security, and law enforcement. Some of these concentrations offer an opportunity to learn about the roles of science and psychology in criminal justice. Students who major in corrections will work to understand criminal offenders, while those who study forensic psychology will investigate the connection between psychology and the justice system. Students who choose forensic science can apply scientific methods and data analysis to the support of law enforcement.
Other majors within the criminal justice program allow students to focus on security and protection. The homeland security/terrorism degree educates students on the role of law enforcement in terrorism prevention, and students also may acquire global knowledge by majoring in government and national security within Tiffin's criminal justice curriculum. Students in law enforcement programs learn the foundations of criminal justice.
Undergraduate students enroll in business programs to earn an Associate or Bachelor of Business Administration and develop critical skills that organizations require. Accounting graduates will help manage an organization's economic resources. The computer and information technology curriculum combines technology, software, and programming with business theories, while the finance curriculum prepares students for industry, retail, and financial planning. The marketing major provides an integrated approach, so graduates are able to implement marketing strategies effectively. Other business programs include management and sports and recreation management. Both of these majors allow students to complete core courses and study a specific concentration within the field.
Time is Set Aside for Student Life Activities on Tiffin's Campus
Once a week, classes go on hold to allow students to take part in student organizations. Students may decide to gain writing experience by contributing to the university magazine. They may also work in student government, join Greek life, or get competitive on an intramural team. Student organizations are based on special interests, campus government, social groups, academics, and more. Involvement with student organizations provides real-life success even before graduation, as students make a difference on campus and in the community.
Student life is energized by 18 NCAA Division II sports teams. Male athletes take part in: baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, soccer, tennis, and track and field. Female athletes compete in: volleyball, basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, and track and field. Club sports range from bowling and volleyball to cheerleading and martial arts. The university even has an equestrian club.
About 20 percent of students contribute to vocal and instrumental groups, university choir, or theater. Student life benefits from friendships formed during residence hall movie nights, ice cream socials, and pep rallies. Everyday activities revolve around the student center with its dining hall, bookstore, gym, theatre, lounge, and game room. The university understands the importance of an active student life. In addition to supporting organizations, Tiffin sponsors speakers and workshops that motivate students to do more.
