Overview

Trine University's Academic Excellence is Nationally Recognized

In addition to being recognized in the 2009 edition of "U.S. News and World Report's" "America's Best Colleges," Trine has been ranked among the best Midwestern baccalaureate colleges each year for the last five years. "The Princeton Review's" "Best in the Midwest" section also listed Trine in the web feature "2009 Best Colleges Region by Region."

Trine's professor-to-student ratio is 15:1 in a rigorous academic climate that is second to none. Students receive excellent instruction from professors trained at some of the country's most highly regarded universities. As a result, Trine engineering seniors taking the fundamentals of engineering exam administered by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) in April 2008 topped the national passing average for engineering students taking the test. The NCEES test represents the first step on the licensing pathway to professional engineer status.

In 2006 and 2007, Trine's rigorous academics led to a first place in the national American Institute of Chemical Engineers individual design competition, besting the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Purdue University, the University of Alabama-Birmingham, the University of Michigan, and the University of Texas, among 150 other schools with chemical engineering programs.

Examinations of Trine programs have found them to be excellent. The university is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and North Central Association. Its Franks School of Education is one of the smallest in the nation to meet the rigorous standards for accreditation by the National Council of Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), as well as those of the Indiana Department of Education/Division of Professional Standards.

The Trine Campus Delivers the Amenities and Excitement Expected from a Leading University

Trine's residential students enjoy an extraordinary campus experience. New student apartments provide a home-away-from-home, with the comfort of a central living area and private bedrooms and baths. Each building has lounges with big-screen TVs, fireplaces, and small bistros, plus recreation areas with game tables to offer gathering places and convenient activities. Four new buildings provide decks or patios with a view of Trine's 18-hole Zollner Golf Course, further enhancing the Trine campus experience.

Students enjoy free access to the Hornbacher Fitness Center, with showers and lockers, and student lounges with massage chairs. The new climate-controlled Athletic and Recreation Center (ARC) showcases a 200-meter indoor track and training spaces for tennis, baseball, and softball, as well as an area for intramural sports and recreation. Disciplined athletes can begin training earlier and continue training longer, and the new facility can support regional and national competitions.

New fraternity buildings on campus demonstrate Trine University's flourishing Greek life. Kappa Sigma, Sigma Phi Epsilon, and Phi Kappa Theta have constructed stunning new homes, while Delta Chi plans another new house on Darling Street over the next year.

While Trine Greeks live well, they also work well. This year, the Trine chapter of Delta Chi fraternity was awarded the President's Cup for overall superior performance and programming at the fraternity's 56th international convention in Las Vegas, Nevada. The President's Cup is the most prestigious award given to any Delta Chi chapter. The tradition of excellence vaults the university's Delta Chi chapter to the highest rank among chapters across the country.

Trine Offers the Resources and Support Necessary to Ensure that Students Find the Best Jobs

To ensure that Trine students find jobs and career opportunities, the Office of Career Services offers a central information conduit between employers in need of the brightest new talent and graduates ready to venture into today's workforce. Trinecareers.org manages job and career opportunities for students and employers and allows registered students to post online résumés for potential employers, while registered employers can access the résumés and enter their job offerings in a database. The office also hosts recruiters for visits and arranges interviews with student job candidates.

Additional support includes a Lilly Endowment grant that funds strategies to engage students in experiential learning assignments. Trine students receive regional education, technical programs, and collaborative opportunities, and employers connect with Trine interns, co-op education students, and graduates through the strategies employed by the experiential learning curriculum. A new Office of Career Services coordinator plans field trips and creates opportunities and matches for interns and co-op students.

All the efforts of the Office of Career Services pay off in successful placement of Trine graduates. One hundred percent of responding Franks School of Education graduates began jobs or attended graduate school within three months, indicating that the world recognizes the value of a Trine education. Depending upon the area of specialization, Trine engineering graduates earn starting salaries that are extremely competitive. Other jobs with bright futures exist for Trine accounting, computer science, business administration/management, economics/finance, information sciences and systems, management information systems, and marketing graduates.
