Austin, Texas Appeals to a Wide Range of Interests
The campus of the University of Texas at Austin (UT) is a beautiful, 850-acre spread featuring a wide variety of architecture and landscaping that, coupled with the school's 17 libraries and 7 on-campus museums, make it an excellent setting for students.
The city seems to have a strong inclination toward small, independent merchants, so that retail shops and restaurants remain unique and charming. Austin is also home to various parks and outdoor activities, with hiking, kayaking, swimming, camping, rock climbing, and biking very popular activities for students in their leisure time.
There are always plenty of things to do for students, both on campus and in the greater Austin area. There are a variety of on-campus restaurants and clubs, and UT has been consistently ranked as one of the best sports colleges in the U.S., making football and basketball games, among other such events, some of the most popular activities for sports enthusiasts and supporters.
Austin itself is a large city, featuring a culturally diverse population that is growing at an extremely fast rate. Austinites are fiercely loyal to their great city and always eager to share stories of its rich history and tradition. Appealing to a variety of interests, Austin features a vibrant nightlife that is popular among students and has an unusually high number of museums and art galleries to feed the minds of the curious. In addition, Austin has a prodigious quantity of art produced by locals, as well as a vast array of statues, landmarks, murals, and other items of interest in the area.
UT: Excellence in Academics, Athletics, and Student Opportunities
The University of Texas at Austin, most often referred to as the University of Texas or simply "UT," is a public university that is one of eight "Public Ivy" institutions, a designation indicating the school's excellence in academics. The school was founded in 1883 and features the largest enrollment of all colleges and universities in Texas as well as one of the largest student bodies in the U.S. Consistently ranked among the top universities in the nation, the University of Texas consists of a wide variety of colleges and schools that range in subject matter from Engineering to Liberal Arts, thus giving students numerous options to pursue academically.
The University of Texas also boasts a very rich athletic history and, in keeping with the Texas tradition of raising cattle, the school's mascot is the "Longhorn." UT's football program consistently draws national attention and produces a number of professional football stars, while the basketball and baseball teams have also performed well on an annual basis for quite some time.
A beautiful setting for higher education, the University of Texas campus contains interesting architecture and several museums, as well as a wide variety of housing options. Off-campus housing is also readily available nearby. With a large number of student organizations, there are also many things for students to do outside of class. Students who experience the University of Texas for the first time are often drawn to the unique energy that pervades the campus and the student body.
