Stevenson University, a private liberal arts institution is located in Baltimore County, Maryland. Formerly known as Villa Julie College, it became Stevenson University in 2008, but continues the same traditions of career-focused education. The university has two campuses, one in Stevenson and one in Owings Mills. Stevenson is co-ed, with a 13 to 1 student-to-faculty ratio that provides smaller classes for more individualized attention.
Stevenson prides itself on engaging students in their personal, social, and intellectual growth by supporting a learning atmosphere based not only on core values, but also on the idea of broadening students' horizons to better help them adapt to the dynamic modern world. Students at Stevenson receive an education that includes liberal arts, science, technology, and other practical skills that help with career planning.

Student housing at Stevenson University is more than just a space to live. The residences on campus are considered to be another educational facet of life at college, so the residential staff promotes opportunities for students to participate actively in living environments that support and enhance personal and academic growth. Students and staff work together to build a residential community. Students learn to share space with others, communicate and compromise, treat others with respect, and make responsible decisions.
Keeping these residential environments well-maintained is made easier by the fact that all of Stevenson's spacious suite and apartment-style residences were built within the past five years, offering a modern and comfortable campus living arrangement.
These living arrangements help self-confidence to flourish at Stevenson. Students learn to appreciate their abilities in all facets of campus life, from the residential dorms and the widely acclaimed co-op/internship program, to the classroom, a broad range of clubs, and Division III athletics. Stevenson offers students myriad opportunities to gain independence and leadership.
Stevenson, an NCAA Division III University, Fields Numerous Athletic Teams, While Student Groups Offer Variety
The Stevenson Mustangs field 19 NCAA Division III varsity athletic teams, ranging from field hockey to golf. In 2009, the men's lacrosse team achieved the number one ranking at Stevenson, concluding their best season ever in the NCAA semi-finals and receiving six all-America selections. In 2010, Stevenson will add football to its list of varsity teams, and the football team will compete in the NCAA by 2011.
For students who prefer intramural sports, options range from traditional fare such as basketball and hockey to racquet sports including racquetball, badminton, and ping-pong.
Of course, there are more activities at Stevenson than just sports. The Office of Student Activities offers a number of programs to foster the development of social skills and diversity awareness, leadership and management skills, and community engagement. Student Government has councils for all four class years.
There are also a number of student groups ranging from the Cosplay Club to the People for Animal Wellness (PAW) Society. Various special events and social activities on campus allow students to develop their interpersonal skills and work towards personal goals, regardless of club membership.
Academics Are Career-Focused While Honors Programs and Support Services Cover the Whole Student Body
Stevenson University provides a distinctive, career-focused, and personalized environment for undergraduate students. A number of majors are available, and most courses are also complemented by an invitation to explore the world outside of the classroom. The Stevenson experience aims to broaden students' horizons by taking learning beyond the classroom to give them the tools and experience to adapt their academic knowledge to the ever-changing world outside.
A number of challenging academic courses are offered, with distinctive undergraduate programs available in biotechnology, business, education, film, video, theatre, medical technology, nursing, public history, visual communication design, and more.
Qualified students may apply to be in Stevenson's honors program, which takes the university's focus on intellectual challenges inside and outside the classroom to the next level. Honors students participate in interdisciplinary seminars that allow them to think critically about current issues, and examine them from different perspectives through the lenses of different disciplines. Honors students also tend to pursue their scholarship through the community, taking service learning courses and internships, and participating in research projects.
For students who require academic assistance, a number of support services are available on campus. Academic advisers are available to all students, and a special program of first-year advisers is available to incoming students to help with academics or just dealing with college life in general.
Wherever Students' Roads Lead, Stevenson Prides Itself on Career Planning and Preparation for Graduate Study
Stevenson may offer a liberal arts education, but the focus remains on making sure that students are prepared for the real world after graduation. Career preparation is integrated into the curriculum, and all students gain real-world experience through Stevenson's unique "Career Architecture" program. This program allows students to plan strategically for their futures by developing resumes, practicing interviewing techniques, meeting with potential employers on-campus, and participating in internships and co-ops.
In the past five years, an average of 96 percent of Stevenson graduates has been employed or started graduate school within six months of graduation.
