Beautiful Wesleyan College Campus Boasts a New State-of-the-Art Science Center

The beautiful 200-acre wooded campus, along with thirty historically significant buildings, is listed in the National Register of Historic Places as the Wesleyan College Historic District. Wesleyan is nestled in a northern suburb of Macon, the third largest city in the state of Georgia. Elegant, white-columned Georgian-styled buildings surround a classic quadrangle that plays host to many college events.

The campus' 150-year-old trees are a beautiful contrast for Wesleyan's recently renovated residence halls; multi-million dollar athletic, wellness, and equestrian facilities; and a new state-of-the-art science center that has amenities such as whiteboards and Wi-Fi. Students can expect to gain experience actually using state-of-the-art scientific equipment. This equipment, combined with cutting-edge computer facilities, has been incorporated into courses and is used in student-faculty research projects. It's a truly inspired setting.

Wesleyan College offers undergraduate degrees in 32 majors and 31 minors including self-designed majors and interdisciplinary programs, as well as eight pre-professional programs including seminary, engineering, medicine, pharmacy, veterinary medicine, allied health sciences, dental, and law. Wesleyan also offers a dual-degree program in engineering with the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta; Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama; and Mercer University in Macon.

Students from across the U.S. and sixteen other countries value a rigorous academic program renowned for its quality. An exceptional faculty teaches classes in seminar style. A student-faculty ratio of 10 to 1 ensures that each student is more than just a grade or a number. The acceptance rate of Wesleyan students into medical, law, business, and other graduate programs is exemplary.

Wesleyan's First-year Seminar Program is the Foundation for a Premier Education for Women

Wesleyan is among a select group of national colleges and universities offering a comprehensive first-year seminar program built into the curriculum and designed to facilitate a positive transition to college life. The WISE program is a first-year integrative seminar and includes six required semester hours or two courses - one taken fall semester and the other taken spring semester. The seminars are taught by a team of six faculty members. Students meet twice weekly in small groups with their assigned faculty adviser and also once weekly as one whole group for larger presentation and discussion opportunities.

Each first-year student begins her academic program with the interdisciplinary seminars intended to provide an understanding of the nature and value of a Wesleyan education; the skills and strategies needed to make a successful transition to college; an exposure to juxtaposed disciplinary methods as part of an academic community committed to the free and open exchange of ideas; an opportunity to reflect critically on individual beliefs and frames of reference; and encouragement to discover and explore individual talents and passions through study, service, and work.

Wesleyan Women Can Participate in the International Study Abroad and Exchange Program

Wesleyan women do some amazing things in some amazing places. The International Study Abroad and Exchange Program of Wesleyan College extends the boundaries of the Macon campus, widens the educational horizon, and encourages personal and academic growth through semester, summer, or year-long studies in a variety of countries.

From time to time, Wesleyan faculty lead special study groups to various countries such as Russia, Italy, China, Guatemala, and Great Britain. In addition, every summer, faculty members organize valuable travel opportunities inside the United States for students. The college's many study abroad opportunities also may give students a chance to earn academic credit.

Campus Life is Dynamic and All-inclusive at Wesleyan College

At Wesleyan College, the social atmosphere is all-inclusive. Two sororities were actually founded on the Wesleyan campus, but students' definition of sisterhood evolved into something they consider to be better. At the heart of Wesleyan sisterhood is a strong class-year system that dates back to the early years of the 20th century. Each class is identified by color and mascot name and has its own songs and cheers. Class mascot names include Pirates, Golden Hearts, Purple Knights, and Green Knights. Class traditions took the place of sororities, which were determined to be too secretive and undemocratic and abolished in 1914. STUNT, Color Rush, Candlelighting, and Marker Ceremonies are just a few of the traditions that students experience at the college.

Wesleyan offers a thriving residence life program, NCAA Division III athletics, championship IHSA equestrian program, and meaningful opportunities for community involvement and leadership. At Wesleyan, students take clubs and student organizations to a whole new level. Established groups focus on themes ranging from political awareness to spiritual development to musical appreciation. If none of the forty-plus different clubs, student organizations, special interest groups, leadership boards, religious groups, and service organizations captures a student's attention, Wesleyan will help start one that does! At this Georgia school, horizons are broadened far beyond the classroom. In fact, it's often during "extra" curricular activities that Wesleyan women really learn to be leaders.

Wesleyan College Offers Internships and Early Career Opportunities for Students

Wesleyan's Office of Career and Internship Services encourages career exploration and preparation as an ongoing process that can be individualized for each student's needs and interests. The Director of Career and Internship Services provides career development seminars, individual career and graduate school advising, assessments, and on-line employment listings for students and alumnae.

An important component of a Wesleyan education is the real world experience of an internship. Because of this, the college actively encourages all of its students to have at least one internship experience before graduation. Through the Wesleyan-Rotary Internship Program, the State of Georgia's Governor's Intern Program, Congressional Intern Programs, and other programs approved by the Director of Career and Internship Services, students are able to relate theory to actual practice and gain valuable work experience while continuing their academic program.
