The College and Its Mission
Brown Mackie College–Hopkinsville is one of over twenty locations in the Brown Mackie College family of schools (http://www.brownmackie.edu), which is dedicated to providing educational programs that prepare students to pursue entry-level positions in a competitive, rapidly-changing workplace. Brown Mackie College schools offer bachelor's degree, associate degree, certificate, and diploma programs in health sciences, business, information technology, legal studies, and design to over 14,000 students in the Midwest, Southeastern, and Southwestern United States.
Brown Mackie College–Hopkinsville is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS) to award associate degrees and diplomas. The Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools is listed as a nationally recognized accrediting agency by the United States Department of Education and is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. The College is a nonresidential, smoke-free institution.
Academic Programs
Brown Mackie College–Hopkinsville provides higher education to traditional and nontraditional students through associate degree and diploma programs that can assist them in enhancing their career opportunities, broadening their perspectives through appropriate general education courses, thinking independently and critically, and improving problem-solving abilities.
Each College quarter comprises ten to twelve weeks. Programs are offered on a year-round basis, providing students with the ability to work uninterrupted toward their degrees. The College offers all programs in a unique One Course a Month schedule. This schedule allows students to focus studies on only one course for four weeks. This schedule has proven convenient for students with multiple obligations such as jobs and family.
Associate Degree Programs: Associate degree programs require a minimum of eight quarters to complete. The Associate of Applied Business degree (96 credits) is awarded in accounting technology, business management, computer programming and applications, computer software technology, criminal justice, and paralegal. The Associate of Applied Science degree (96 credits) is awarded in medical assisting, medical office management, and occupational therapy assistant (100 credits).
Diploma Programs: The College also offers diploma programs (48 credits) in accounting, business, computer software applications, criminal justice, medical assistant studies, medical coding and billing for health care, and paralegal assistant.
Costs
Tuition is $235 per credit hour. A general fee of $15 per credit hour is charged and applied to the cost of institutional activities and services. For the occupational therapy assistant program, tuition is $235 per credit hour for general courses and $350 per credit hour for program-specific courses. The cost of textbooks and other instructional materials varies by program.
Financial Aid
Financial aid is available to those who qualify. The College maintains a full-time staff of financial aid professionals to assist qualified students in obtaining the financial assistance they require to meet their educational expenses. The College participates in several student aid programs. Forms of financial aid available through federal resources include Federal Pell Grants, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (FSEOG), the Federal Work-Study Program, Federal Perkins Loans, Federal Stafford Student Loans (subsidized and unsubsidized), and the Federal PLUS Program. Students may apply for the College Access Program (CAP) Grant Program and the Kentucky Education Excellence Award (KEES), a scholarship program based on their final high school grade point average. Eligible students may also apply for veterans’ educational benefits. Students with physical or mental disabilities that are a handicap to employment may be eligible for training services through the State Vocational Rehabilitation Agency. Each year, the College makes available President’s Scholarships of $1000 each to qualifying seniors from area high schools. No more than one scholarship is awarded per high school. In order to qualify, a senior must be graduating from a participating high school, maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0, and submit a brief essay. The student’s extracurricular activities and community service are also considered. The President’s Scholarship is available only to students enrolling in one of the College’s degree programs. Students awarded the scholarship must enroll at Brown Mackie College–Hopkinsville between June and September immediately following their high school graduation. Applications for these scholarships can be obtained from the guidance departments of participating high schools. These applications must be completed and returned to the College by March 31.

There are 5 full-time and 15 part-time faculty members. The student-faculty ratio is 15:1.
Facilities and Resources
Brown Mackie College–Hopkinsville occupies a spacious building that has been specifically designed to provide a comfortable and effective environment for learning. The facility comprises approximately 11,250 square feet, including sixteen classrooms, two medical laboratories, three computer laboratories, an academic resource center, administrative and faculty offices, a bookstore, and a student lounge. Computer equipment for hands-on learning includes three networked laboratories. Medical equipment includes monocular and binocular microscopes, electrocardiograph, autoclave, centrifuge, and other equipment appropriate to hands-on laboratory and clinical instruction. Convenient parking is available to all students.

Admission Requirements
Each applicant for admission is assigned an Assistant Director of Admissions who directs the applicant through the steps of the admissions process, providing information on curriculum, policies, procedures, and services and assisting the applicant in setting necessary appointments and interviews.
To qualify for admission, each applicant must provide documentation of graduation from an accredited high school or from a state-approved secondary education curriculum or provide official documentation of high school graduation equivalency. All transcripts become the property of the College. Admission to the College is based upon the applicant’s meeting the stated requirements, a review of the applicant’s previous education records, and a review of the applicant’s career interests. If previous academic records indicate that the College’s education and training would not benefit the applicant, the College reserves the right to advise the applicant not to enroll. Special requirements for enrollment into certain programs are discussed in the descriptions of those programs.
