Overview
Peddie School's Picturesque Campus Accommodates a Low Student-Teacher Ratio and Diverse Student Body
Peddie's picturesque, residential 230-acre campus is a wonderful setting for living and learning. Featuring 54 buildings including 12 residence halls, the campus surrounds Peddie Lake, adjoining woodlands, extensive athletic fields, and the 18-hole Peddie School Golf Club. Of Peddie's 530 students, half boys and half girls, about two-thirds are boarding students.
Peddie's welcoming community is rich in diversity -- in race and religion, socio-economic background, culture, and thought. Students come from 20 states and 23 countries. 20 percent are students of color and 11 percent are international. Peddie's average class size is 12, and the student teacher ratio is 6 to 1.
Peddie's size and location are significant. As a mid-sized boarding school with one of the county's largest endowments, Peddie is able to provide impressive educational resources and opportunities to its students without sacrificing the personalized attention of a close-knit community.
Peddie's New Jersey Location is Convenient for Travel as well as Class Educational Trips
Located in Hightstown, New Jersey, Peddie School provides easy access to the educational and cultural activities of nearby Princeton. Peddie is also midway between New York City and Philadelphia (50 miles each), connected by both bus and rail, and a quick half hour from Newark Liberty International Airport.
Travel from home for students and parents is convenient, and the school's unique location permits frequent class trips to some of the world's finest museums, theaters, and cultural venues. Students take same-day trips to New York's Broadway theater district, Metropolitan Museum of Art, and Ellis Island; Philadelphia's Independence Hall; and Washington D.C.'s Smithsonian Institute.
Challenging Academics and Innovative Curriculum Take Advantage of Modern Course Topics and Technology
Peddie School challenges and actively engages students. The school's innovative curriculum offers rigorous core courses and exciting electives. Honors and Advanced Placement courses are available in 34 subjects. Classes are small, interactive, and encourage students to explore new ideas, take risks, and create imaginative solutions.
Courses in the sciences include Global Warming: Science and Economics, Genetics, Forensics, and Robotics. Peddie's extraordinary Annenberg Science Center, a "green" learning center with state of the art Genius Boards, DNA laboratory, and two-story greenhouse supports those initiatives. History courses reflect today's exciting trends, including Modern East Asia: The Rise of China and Modern Africa.
A pioneer in secondary school technology, Peddie provides every entering student with a laptop computer at no additional cost. Peddie classrooms are equipped with interactive "smart" white boards and wireless network and internet. The campus network extends to all buildings and dormitories.
Arts and Athletics at Peddie Ensure that Students' Lives are Well-Rounded and Engaging
Renowned for its music, performing, and visual arts programs, Peddie encourages and inspires students to create. One hundred fifty students take part in Peddie's four choruses and Symphony Orchestra, and others take advantage of advanced portfolio art, three major school plays, jazz band, and chamber ensembles. The Swig Arts Center houses an art gallery, painting and drawing studios, independent studio space for Advanced Studio Arts students, soundproof music practice rooms, a state-of-the-art photography laboratory, and an electronic music composing room.
Athletics is an important aspect of everyday campus life, and Peddie School reflects a proud tradition of championship caliber sports. Peddie students compete in 16 interscholastic sports on 49 teams at the freshman, junior varsity, and varsity levels. The Ian Graham Athletic center houses a swimming pool and three courts (used for basketball, volleyball, and tennis) surrounded by a Mondo surface track. Superb outdoor facilities include fourteen tennis courts, an Olympic-caliber quarter-mile track with Mondo surface, a football and lacrosse field, three baseball diamonds, and the 18-hole Peddie School Golf Club.
