Formed in 1988, Clark Atlanta University (CAU) is one of the nation's foremost universities with an African-American heritage. Located right in the center of downtown Atlanta, Georgia, this four-year private institution was created when Atlanta University, which solely offered graduate programs, merged with Clark College, an undergraduate college that specialized in the liberal arts. CAU, which is affiliated with the Methodist church, has approximately 3,500 undergraduate students attending school under the traditional semester calendar.

CAU offers prestigious, culturally and academically diverse programs in arts and sciences, humanities, communications, natural sciences, mathematics, social sciences, business, education, and social work. Through internships, the university's students have an amazing opportunity to be linked with national and local businesses via the institution so that, upon graduation, they have practical work experience that reinforces their academic studies.

The athletic program at Clark Atlanta University encompasses a broad range of sports opportunities for its students. Women's tennis, track and field, fast pitch softball, basketball, volleyball, and cross-country as well as men's football, track and field, basketball, baseball, and cross-country make up the intercollegiate sports teams for the Panthers. As members of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and participants in NCAA Division II, CAU's athletic program is comprehensive and offers great opportunities for students to participate in and view exhilarating athletic events year-round. A wide range of recreational sports and activities are also available.
