University of Wyoming
The University of Wyoming offers a personalized educational experience for a fraction of the cost of other public universities. The University of Wyoming, located in Laramie, Wyoming, is ranked 17th among America's Best Public Colleges, and 5th among America's Best College Buys, according to Forbes.com. This comes as no surprise, as University of Wyoming is a national research university that offers countless opportunities in and outside of the classroom.
University of Wyoming's student-to-faculty ratio is 15 to 1, while the average class size is 30 students. University of Wyoming offers 180 different programs of study.
The School of Energy Resources (SER) is one of this Laramie-based university's newest programs of study. It combines engineering and science, economics, and environment and natural resources policy to address energy-related issues. Currently, UW is working with GE Energy to develop an advanced gasification research and technology center in Wyoming. SER is also involved in developing clean coal technology.
University of Wyoming's College of Business is one of fewer than 15 percent of all business schools worldwide to be fully accredited at the undergraduate and graduate levels by the AACSB-International, the top business school accrediting agency. It will soon be housed in a new $54 million facility that will transform business education in Wyoming The college's elite faculty includes economics professor Jason Shogren, who shares the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize with a group of scientists for their work on climate change.
The new College of Business facility will join the list of various other state of the art campus facilities recently constructed or renovated, including the Anthropology Building, Health Sciences Building, Information Technology Building, and the main campus library.
University of Wyoming Campus
Set at 7,200 feet above sea level, Laramie, Wyoming is host to the University of Wyoming, the state's only four-year institution. Surrounded on three sides by mountains, Laramie is a pristine location to work or attend school. It is known for its small town charm and unique western atmosphere.
Students study and play in the town's many parks, browse through historic downtown, relax in coffeehouses, and take advantage of museums, galleries, and the Wyoming Territorial Prison State Historic Site, which preserves one of only two territorial prisons still in existence today.
The nearby Medicine Bow National Forest provides quick access to outdoor recreation. Within 20 minutes, students can be taking on a challenging mountain bike or Nordic ski trail, or scaling the massive granite monoliths of the Vedauwoo formation. Snowy Range Ski Area is within 45 minutes, and Steamboat Springs, Colorado, is a two-hour drive south.
