Twelve Different Degree Programs Offer Multiple Options for John Cabot Students
John Cabot University offers Bachelor of Arts and Associate of Arts degrees in twelve majors: art history, classical studies, English literature, business administration, international affairs, communications, humanistic studies, Italian studies, economics and finance, history, marketing, and political science. In addition, JCU degrees in business administration, political science, marketing, and international affairs have been validated by the University of Wales in the United Kingdom. Minors may also be selected in any of the major areas, in addition to classical studies, creative writing, philosophy, religion, and psychology.

Students at John Cabot University are provided with numerous opportunities to interact in various ways with a distinguished international faculty, staff, and a student population that represents more than forty countries. Opportunities arise through organized social and cultural events, contacts with international scholars, interactions with business and government leaders, and through personal and career assistance from JCU faculty advisers. Many JCU students continue to pursue studies and careers in international settings after graduation. Experimentation Is a Hallmark of the American System of Higher Education
The American system of higher education differs from most European university systems in that students are encouraged to experiment, especially during the first two years of their degree program. Therefore, JCU's degree programs are divided into two categories. The programs include the General Distribution requirements of the first two years of study, followed by the specific requirements of the major students select. General Distribution courses expose students to English composition and literature, mathematics and science, and areas of the humanities, such as philosophy, religion, art history, and theater. Students are encouraged to experiment, exploring areas that they are not familiar with, so as to broaden their intellectual aptitudes and discover previously unrecognized abilities. The General Distribution courses help students decide upon an area of specialization to select as a degree candidate in the junior and senior years.
Written and Spoken English Skills Are a Priority in Programs at JCU
As an American university, JCU attaches particular importance to students being able to write and speak English fluently. All students are required to complete a sequence of courses in English composition and literature upon beginning their education at JCU. Entering students are given an English composition placement exam to determine their entry level in this sequence of courses. The school's goal is for students to be able to think logically, to articulate clearly, and to appreciate the power of the English language as reflected in its rich literary heritage. Courses in journalism, creative writing, rhetoric, and public speaking further develop students' communication skills in English.
Internship Programs Allow Students to Bridge the Gap between the Classroom and the World
John Cabot University's For-Credit Internship Program gives students the chance to enhance their educational experience through working at multinational corporations, with embassies and United Nations agencies, with cultural institutions, or with the media. Internships taken for degree credit involve either participating in a meaningful project or working in an ongoing assignment. Not-for-credit internships are available for full-time students and recent graduates, and they require either full-time or part-time unpaid work for a period of three to six months. All interns are supervised only by supervisors on site at the employer's location, and all participants are usually required to be fluent in both English and Italian.
