The IB Program: Changing the World

The IBO mission statement

"The International Baccalaureate Organization aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.

To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment.

These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right."

A focus on unity
If you’re a visionary who dreams of global unity through peaceful cooperation and understanding, attending a school which offers an International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma may be right up your alley. IB programs are currently offered at schools around the world, inspiring critical thinking and compassion in students from the elementary to high school level. These programs pursue excellence in both their curriculum and their students, developing well-educated and caring adults who may help promote a thriving global community through intercultural understanding and respect.

Created in 1968, the non-profit International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) works with schools, governments, and other organizations around the world, constantly developing and refining a universal curriculum of international education and experiences. There is a well-defined level of achievement that is promoted equally around the globe.

The IBO has developed three curriculum tracks: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), and the Diploma Programme (DP). To earn your IB Diploma, you do not need to complete all three levels.

The Diploma Programme
An IB diploma is considered to be an outstanding achievement that will prepare you well for college-level studies. Offered in English, French, and Spanish, the program is a demanding two-year pre-university international course of study for students aged 16 to 19. It is recognized and accepted as an excellent pre-requisite for admission to many of the world’s best universities.

The IB program is quite rigorous and is intended for highly motivated students planning to enroll in a university. It is available in state schools, public schools, private schools, and international schools, but you must enroll in a specific IB school to participate. Acceptance criteria vary, so your enrollment is at the discretion of the school — not everyone will be eligible.

If you’re interested in pursuing an International Baccalaureate program, a directory of IBO-certified schools is available at www.ibo.org.
