Overview

Professional Graduate Programs at a Progressive University

Founded in 1972, Antioch University distinguished itself by its commitment to progressive education, embracing gender and racial equality. Today, the Antioch University system has expanded with 5 campuses in 4 states: Los Angeles and Santa Barbara in California, Seattle in Washington, Yellow Springs in Ohio, and Keene in New Hampshire. The mission of the university system is to empower students with the skills they need to contribute to economic, social, and environmental justice.

Antioch University Los Angeles (AULA) is "just a little different" from conventional universities in a variety of ways. AULA fosters an LGBT-affirmative culture and is home to adult learners of a wide range of ages and cultural and professional backgrounds. AULA offers no tenured faculty positions so that instructors must continually work to better themselves and their students. AULA instructors assess students through written evaluations rather than letter grades.

Nationally Recognized as a Leader in Community Service

Antioch University has been nationally recognized as a leader in community service. The university is a recipient of the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll Award. USA Today has ranked Antioch University among the top 20 colleges most committed to community service.

AULA helps adult learners achieve career goals through professional master degree programs in psychology, education, organizational and nonprofit management, urban sustainability, and creative writing.

The Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology

AULA offers both a Master of Arts (MA) in Clinical Psychology and in non-clinical psychology. The clinical psychology graduate students have a choice of 5 specializations: applied community psychology; child studies; LGBT-affirmative psychology; psychological trauma; and spiritual and depth psychology. Alternatively, student can design their own specializations. Clinical psychology students receive hands-on training in over 100 authorized clinics.

The Master of Arts in Psychology

AULA psychology students may also choose to pursue non-clinical programs personalized to their own fields of interest, such as career counseling, parenting education, and creative arts therapies. The MA in Psychology also prepares students for doctoral studies and careers in consulting, teaching, and writing. Students may also pursue degrees that combine organizational management and psychology.

The Master of Arts in Education and Teaching Credential

Antioch University offers an MA in Education through its teacher credentialing program. The progressive curriculum focuses on cutting-edge pedagogy and democratic educational practices critical to urban communities.

The Master of Arts in Education, Leadership, and Change

AULA's MA in Education, Leadership, and Change prepares graduates to become agents of change who take on leadership roles as instructors within their own communities. Graduates of the program work as child advocates, community organizers, educators, staff members and leaders within school districts, and researchers.

The Master of Arts in Organizational Management

The MA in Organizational Management is different from traditional business schools that emphasize cutthroat competition. Instead, AULA helps students master "soft skills" such as critical-thinking, team-building, communication, and leadership.

The Master of Arts in Nonprofit Management

Antioch University Los Angeles offers an innovative MA in Nonprofit Management to empower students to gain the expertise needed for working within the nonprofit sector. Instructors include some of the most successful professionals in southern California, and graduates of the program are eligible to become Certified Nonprofit Professionals (CNP).

The Master of Arts in Urban Sustainability

Combining fieldwork and coursework, AULA's MA in Urban Sustainability produces graduates who become leaders in ecological practice, corporate accountability, social justice organizing, and public policy. Students explore the economics, science, and social benefits of sustainability through online and classroom learning, site visits, and guest lectures.

The Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing

The Atlantic Magazine has named AULA's Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Creative Writing one of the top 5 low-residency programs in the nation. Founded by the first Poet Laureate of Los Angeles, Eloise Klein Healy, the program delves into works by diverse and socially-conscious authors, assessing the important role of the author within society. Students can specialize in fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, or writing for young people.

Certificate Programs

Antioch University Los Angeles also offers certificate programs in specialized fields, including applied community psychology, LGBT-affirmative psychology, psychology of trauma, and urban sustainability. AULA also provides a post MFA Certificate in Creative Writing. These programs give students educational opportunities outside the full-degree programs. Students may also pursue Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) coursework as a non-degree option.

Financial Aid at Antioch University Los Angeles

Antioch University Los Angeles offers financial aid to both undergraduate and graduate students. Graduate students may apply for both the Micucci Scholarship and the President's Student Scholarship.

A Supportive Campus Community

AULA is home to a vibrant, supportive campus community. The Math and Writing Center offers free tutoring. The Antioch University Counseling Center is staffed by licensed marriage and family therapists and clinical psychologists who provided specialized counseling to students and the surrounding community. Bustling with students during the day, the campus hosts wellness workshops, live music performances, poetry readings, panel discussions, and other events and classes for working adults in the evenings.
