Overview

Master of Professional Studies

The Austin Peay State University Master of Professional Studies (M.P.S) is an online graduate degree program that offers 3 concentrations: "Strategic Leadership," "Human Resources Leadership," and "Training and Development." The Master of Professional Studies program is designed to affordably and flexibly meet the education needs of working adults who are not generally served by traditional methods. Offered completely online and available 24/7, this unique program is taught by professors who are best suited to help students develop the skills necessary to excel in their career fields.

Professional Studies Concentrations

For working adults who work in commerce, information technology, mass media, government, social services, health care, human resources, or education, the M.P.S. degree program at APSU is an excellent option to further one's goals. Three concentrations are delivered: 1) "Strategic Leadership" prepares students to lead in today's rapidly changing professional environment. The interdisciplinary approach focuses on leadership, communication, strategic planning and assessment, organizational structure, and research/data analysis. 2) "Human Resources Leadership" prepares you for a leadership role in the area of human resources. The interdisciplinary approach is appropriate because of the many skills and knowledge areas that are needed for success in this field. 3) "Training and Development" prepares individuals to manage, deliver and assess on-site training programs. It also addresses the needs of human resource managers and other professionals who are increasingly relying on technology to deliver workforce education.

Regents Online Campus Collaborative

The Regents Online Campus Collaborative is a cooperative online enterprise among 6 universities, 13 community colleges, and 26 colleges of applied technology in Tennessee. The institutions in the collaboration are governed by the Tennessee Board of Regents. Annually, more than 38,000 students take classes through Regents Online Degree Programs. Combined enrollment (online and ground) of TBR institutions is over 200,000 students.

Admission Requirements

Applicants must have completed bachelor's degrees with 2.75 GPAs or better. For consideration each candidate must submit official transcripts of undergraduate courses at all colleges attended and acceptable GRE scores. Applicants with 5 or more years of professional work experience may submit a portfolio in lieu of the GRE. The portfolio must include a resume, a 500-600 word essay detailing the reasons for wanting to enter the M.P.S. program and discussing how the program will help the applicant achieve personal and professional goals, and 3 sealed letters of professional and/or academic reference. The portfolio material must be submitted as a packet, not mailed separately. The admission decision will be based on the entire academic and professional record.

E-rate Tuition Reduction for Online Students

Because coursework is completed online, out-of-state students receive APSU's eRate, a significantly lower tuition rate that is roughly half the normal cost of out-of-state tuition, or about one and a half times in-state tuition. To be eligible for eRate, students must be classified as nonresidents of Tennessee and they must be enrolled exclusively in online courses.
