Overview

Boston University's Metropolitan College--Overview

Founded in 1839, Boston University (BU) is the fourth-largest private research university in the United States. Metropolitan College (MET) is one of the university's 16 schools and colleges. Tailored to meet the needs of working adults, MET's evening, part-time graduate degree and certificate programs provide academic study and professional training in flexible formats: on campus, online, or through eLive, a blended format that combines on-campus instruction and online learning.

Relevant Curriculum

Each program's curriculum is designed to address industry-specific developments, so that students are certain to acquire the most relevant skills and competencies. Participants gain the critical knowledge and abilities necessary to compete successfully in today's complex domestic and international environments.

Graduate Degree Programs

MET delivers in-depth education, whether the objective is personal enrichment or professional advancement. By combining the advantages of convenient access with the rigors of graduate-level study, MET extends a valuable opportunity to students who might not otherwise be able to gain university educations.

Faculty Expertise

Members of the faculty bring to the classroom many years of combined industry experience, in addition to their exceptional academic credentials, research, and scholarship. They publish regularly in their respective fields and engage in meaningful research projects across the world. They use practical examples and case studies, providing insight that can be applied directly to the workplace. Beyond the classroom, members of the faculty are available to MET students, throughout their studies and after graduation, to serve as sounding boards and resources.

Student Life

As busy adults, MET students most often must balance career and personal responsibilities. They are self-driven and focused on accomplishing their objectives. Many are experts in their own professions and can apply their practical experience to classroom discussions, which further enriches their studies and those of their classmates.

Students are full members of a community that might be otherwise absent for those pursuing part-time study. In addition, students are encouraged to engage in events and informal gatherings, as well as to enjoy a range of benefits, from use of the fully equipped fitness and recreation center to unlimited access to BU's 24 libraries.

Financial Aid and Scholarships

Comprehensive financial aid services help MET students to achieve their educational and professional goals. Assistance includes scholarships, loans, and assistantships, as well as benefits available to members of the armed services and veterans.

Detailed information is available so that students are able to make thoughtful decisions about the options available for financing an education at Boston University. Smart Money 101, a BU Financial Assistance initiative, provides online tools and other resources to promote effective money management. Workshops and seminars on related topics are offered throughout the academic year.
