M.A. and Ph.D. Degree Requirements in Mathematics at Bryn Mawr

Both the M.A. and Ph.D. degree programs require graduate coursework to secure a broad foundation in pure mathematics. Additionally, for the M.A. degree program, each student works under the advisement of a faculty member to complete a master's thesis. For the Ph.D. degree program, students work with faculty advisers over the course of a number of years to produce high-quality, original research dissertations. On average, a graduate student completes both the M.A. and the Ph.D. degree programs in 6 years.

The mathematics department is a dynamic community with a broad range of specialties within pure mathematics, including algebraic and analytic number theory, low-dimensional manifolds, symplectic and contact geometry and topology, dynamical systems, Fourier analysis, and oscillatory and singular integrals.

Bryn Mawr graduate students are mentored by faculty members on a variety of topics in the area of professional development. The mathematics department hosts a weekly mathematics colloquium and weekly research seminars on a variety of topics.
