The Doctor of Education

An EdD can prepare students for academic or administrative leadership roles in P-12 or higher education, or education faculty, research, and consulting positions.

Capella's EdD is a professional doctoral degree that features:

- Online course work focused on advanced, practical knowledge in the education profession.

- Applied research that contributes to the solution of a recognized problem in the field of education.

- A program designed to be completed in approximately 3 years, with all courses taken in sequence, allowing you to learn and build professional relationships with the same cohort of students.

The Education Specialist Degree

Capella University's online EdS program is designed for educators seeking specialist degrees that emphasize both professional practice and scholarship. Educators who choose this degree program often pursue leadership positions at a school or district level, or continue their studies at the doctoral level. Equivalent course work taken as part of Capella's EdS program may be applied to degree requirements for a Capella PhD. Students choose between a "Curriculum and Instruction" specialization or a state-approved "Leadership in Educational Administration" specialization.

The Doctor of Philosophy in Education

Capella's University's online PhD in Education helps students to strengthen critical thinking, research, and problem solving skills, developing the advanced expertise they need to teach, lead, or consult in education. K-12 specializations include "K-12 Studies in Education and Curriculum and Instruction;" and state-approved specializations in "Leadership in Educational Administration," and "Special Education Leadership." Higher education specializations include "Instructional Design for Online Learning," "Leadership for Higher Education," "Nursing Education," "Postsecondary and Adult Education," "Professional Studies in Education," and "Training and Performance Improvement."
