It consists of 12 academic departments that offer several Master of Education (MEd) and Master of Science (MS) degree programs.

Master of Education in School Administration

The MEd in School Administration program prepares teachers for the administrator certification program. It also trains them for leadership positions that involve managing school professional staff and developing executive long-range plans and policies.

Students complete a minimum of 45 credits and create -- in collaboration with faculty advisers -- individualized courses of study. The School Administration program is now offered online.

Master of Education in Instructional Leadership

The 40-credit MEd in Instructional Leadership helps teachers gain the skills needed to direct school personnel and implement instructional programs. It also prepares them for the administrator certification program.

The curriculum includes coursework in educational foundation and research, diversity leadership, and school law. Students also complete theses, project studies, or exams.

Master Teacher Program

The MEd in Master Teacher program prepares classroom teachers for roles as "teacher scholars" who can develop curriculum, create instructional strategies, and address classroom concerns. The program's 48-credit curriculum includes 29 credits of "area of emphasis" electives as well as theses (or options).

Master of Education in Literacy

Students in the MEd Reading Specialist program each complete at least 45 credits of coursework including a practicum; a master's thesis, project study, or exam; and elective courses. It is a program designed to advance the skills and knowledge of certified teachers in specialty areas.

Master of Education in Special Education

The MEd in Special Education program consists of 45 credits including an internship. Students also take a collaboration/consultation course that helps them identify their inter/intra personal skills. Other courses include "Curriculum for Students with Special Needs"; "Educational Rights of Individuals with Disabilities"; and "Functional, Behavioral, and Instructional Assessment".

Master of Science in Engineering Technology

The 45-credit Master of Science in Engineering Technology (MSET) program emphasizes technology advances, technology management practices, and analytic techniques with the goal of preparing individuals for professional practice. The MSET program is offered on our main campus in Ellensburg, as well as at CWU - Des Moines (Highline Community College campus) and CWU - Lynnwood (Edmonds Community College campus)

Master of Science in Family and Consumer Sciences

The program's career and technical education specialization consists of 45 credits of courses including "Curriculum Development" and "Program Delivery Methods." Furthermore, the 47-credit family studies specialization provides interdisciplinary study in interpersonal and family relationships and includes courses in family interaction and conflict management.

Students in both specializations complete cooperative education, which involves a contracted field experience with a business, government agency, or social service organization.

For example, students in the MS in Nutrition program complete thesis research studies that are presented at conferences.

For example, Professor David Gee in the Department of Nutrition, Exercise, and Health Science conducts research in the areas of nutrition and prevention of chronic disease, sports nutrition, and body composition analysis.

In another example, Professor Melody Madlem in the Department of Physical Education, School, and Public Health conducts research that focuses on spirituality, women's health, and stress management.
