Duquesne University has been highly recognized for its achievements in innovative academics, research, and campus development. For instance, the "US News and World Report"" has named the university among the top 10 Catholic universities in the nation and top 7 schools in Pennsylvania.

The Palumbo Donahue School of Business has also been presented with a number of distinctions for its successes in leadership, curricula, and scholarly excellence. Both the "Princeton Review" and "US News and World Report" have ranked the school among the top business schools in the nation. "Bloomberg Businessweek" also named the school among the top 10 in Pennsylvania and the top 10 in terms of "value" in the nation.

The Palumbo Donahue School of Business at Duquesne University traces its roots back to 1913. Today, the school has a long-standing and distinguished reputation for developing ethical leaders and outstanding professionals, providing innovative curricula, and retaining excellent faculty members with academic and professional expertise.

The school is uniquely positioned in the heart of downtown Pittsburgh, offering students more than 100 companies within walking distance and more than 340 international companies in the region to seek positions with.

School of Business Operates Several Centers Providing Professional Development

The Palumbo Donahue School of Business operates several independent centers that provide professional development opportunities to students, faculty, and the community. The Beard Institute for Leadership in Ethics advocates for advancements in the management profession through efforts in finance, sustainability, and business ethics.

The Investment Center provides students with access to a wide variety of technologies that are used to develop analytics for real-time stock, bond, futures, and currency data from around the world.

The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) provides no-cost technical and management guidance to small business start-ups in southwestern Pennsylvania. SBDC services include environmental management and energy assistance, global trade assistance, management consulting, and training workshops.

The Master of Accountancy Program at Duquesne University

Duquesne University offers a Master of Accountancy (MAcc) program for students interested in becoming accountable leaders in their business community. The full-time, 30-credit program emphasizes communication, analytics, and responsible practice in each of the curriculum's focus areas: ethics, forensic accounting, and regulation and reporting.

Program graduates leave prepared for careers in forensic accounting, public and corporate accounting, and nonprofit and governmental accounting. In addition, at the completion of the program, students will have fulfilled the academic requirements to become licensed as Certified Public Accounts (CPAs) in Pennsylvania and many other states.

Beta Alpha Psi and Accreditation from the AACSB

Duquesne University hosts a branch of Beta Alpha Psi, the premier national honorary fraternity for accounting students and professionals. Service activities sponsored by Duquesne's Theta Chi Chapter are designed to help members network with professionals, contribute to the community, and prepare for professional careers in accounting.

Less than 5 percent of eligible schools accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) International have achieved the distinction. Duquesne has maintained that status for more than 50 years.

Faculty Members in the Accounting Department at the Palumbo Donahue School of Business

Faculty members in the accounting department at the Palumbo Donahue School of Business are accomplished academics and professionals. For instance, Professor Kathy Rankin worked in public, nonprofit, and accounting information systems for over 20 years before coming to Duquesne. She has also served as a board member for the Pittsburgh Center for Financial Literacy, a nonprofit that provides financial education to underprivileged teens.

Dr. Seleshi Sisaye has written several scholarly books and over 18 publications since 2007, all related to his research in managerial and cost accounting. Dr. Sisaye has presented papers at national and international conferences.

Professor Robert J. Kollar has held a number of professional and community positions, including as the director for the MAcc program and treasurer and director of the Pittsburgh Mediation Center. Kollar has also been awarded the Southwestern Pennsylvania Accountant Advocate of the Year by the US Small Business Administration and was named Teacher of the Year by the Duquesne University.

Financial Aid Opportunities at Duquesne University

The Office of Financial Aid at Duquesne University is designed to conveniently help students finance the costs of their college educations. Students may be eligible for a number of grants, loans, scholarships, and work study programs. In addition to federal and state grants, Duquesne University offers renewable institutional grants to full-time students who demonstrate financial need. Some students may be eligible for a Catholic high school discount, a partial tuition refund for graduates from participating high schools affiliated with Duquesne and the Catholic Church.

Founded in 1878, Duquesne University is a private Catholic university located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Today, the university is the largest and most comprehensive Catholic university in the state, and the only Spiritan educational institution in the world. The university offers over 100 undergraduate, 66 graduate and professional, and 22 doctoral programs through their 10 schools, all with an emphasis on leadership, global understanding, and ethical development.
