An Integrated, Multidisciplinary Marketing Program

Emerson's Master of Arts in Integrated Marketing Communication prepares graduate students to solve creatively a wide variety of communications problems in the marketing industry. Integrated Marketing Communication (IMC) strives to expand the definitions of traditional marketing disciplines in order to create a multidisciplinary, dynamic approach to advertising, public relations, sales, brand management, and other areas.

Unlike many other master's level business communication programs, the M.A. in Integrated Marketing Communication emphasizes areas related to the world of marketing. In contrast to an M.B.A. degree, the integrated marketing communication program deals specifically and exclusively with marketing, rather than offering marketing-related courses as electives. Additionally, the IMC program engages students in an integrated approach to marketing, rather than focusing solely on advertising or on public relations, as do many traditional marketing programs.

Preparation for Top Careers in Communication Management

The M.A. in Communication Management (C.M.) program at Emerson allows students to develop skills in speaking, writing, listening, and negotiations, as well as the media expertise necessary for success in the rapidly changing technological environment.

The Communication Management degree prepares students for leadership positions in communication, including director of corporate communications or public affairs in the business sector, communications director or press secretary in the political and governmental arena, director of public advocacy campaigns for a nonprofit or nongovernmental organization, independent consultant or trainer, or senior executive in business or government.

Communication Management graduates help organizations to define and communicate their visions, missions, and strategies.

Master of Arts in Health Communication Combines Communication Management and Health Sciences

In collaboration with Tufts University, Emerson College offers a Master of Arts in Health Communication.

This program is designed to impart students with skills and understanding in both communication and the health sciences, creating an ideal preparation program for careers in health advocacy and communication management within health sciences fields. The program is a good choice for students who are interested in communication and who would like to work in the health industry.

Health Communication students take communication classes from Emerson's expert communications faculty. To supplement these courses, students complete coursework at Tufts University in such areas as "Epidemiology" and "Introduction to Medicine."

This cooperative program design allows students to enjoy the benefits of both Emerson's small college atmosphere and Tufts' comprehensive university structure and resources. Additionally, both institutions benefit from Boston's medicine and healthcare industry, which is the second largest industry in the city.

Students Gain Teamwork and Experience in Global Marketing Communication

Emerson offers an innovative Master of Arts in Global Marketing Communication and Advertising (GMCA) program. This program focuses on developing skills in marketing and communication alongside an understanding of cross-cultural business practices and cultural awareness. The global focus of the GMCA program makes graduates specially qualified to fill business communication positions in international firms.

The curriculum of Emerson's GMCA program stresses teamwork, diversity, and collaboration. Students complete the one-year program in cohort groups, allowing them to develop close working relationships with fellow students and to build teamwork skills that will help them in international business communication careers.

During the final two weeks of the program, students complete a capstone course in which they develop global marketing strategies for real clients. The ability to gain experience working for real clients sets Emerson's program apart from many similar marketing programs at other institutions.
