Emory University - Program in Cancer Biology - Overview
Cancer Biology Program at the GDBBS
The Program in Cancer Biology (CB) provides outstanding training opportunities in every aspect of cancer research, from basic to translational research. This includes molecular and cellular biology, genetics and epigenetics, signal transduction, genetic engineering, nanotechnologies, and many other disciplines used to understand the development and progression of cancer. The major goal of the Cancer Biology Graduate program is to provide outstanding PhD training opportunities for future leaders in the different aspects of cancer research in preparation for a diversity of career paths in research, teaching, and medicine from academia to industry. CB investigators are members of the Winship Cancer Institute, which enables comprehensive training from "bench to the clinic". Emory's Winship Cancer Institute has earned the prestigious National Cancer Institute Cancer Center (NCI) designation. With NCI designation Winship Cancer Institute joins the ranks of the nation's elite cancer research and treatment facilities, and becomes one of only sixty-five NCI cancer centers in the United States among the thousands of cancer facilities that exist.
Graduate Division of Biological and Biomedical Sciences
The program is part of the Graduate Division of Biological and Biomedical Sciences (GDBBS). When applying, all applicants will need to select GDBBS first on their application, and then add their primary program. Emory is unique in giving students an option to do dissertation work at the Center for Disease Control (CDC).
