Overview

Emory's Program in Nutrition and Health Sciences

Emory's Program in Nutrition and Health Sciences [NHS] offers a Ph.D. degree through the Graduate Division of Biological and Biomedical Sciences [GDBBS] within the Laney Graduate School [LGS].

Our students obtain the skills necessary to investigate relationships between human nutrition and health and contribute to improving nutrition worldwide. The NHS faculty were recently ranked 4th in the US in terms of research productivity. Core strengths in metabolomics and predictive medicine, clinical nutrition, population-based intervention trials and epidemiology, and public nutrition programs ensure a quality training, whatever aspect of human nutrition inspires you.

The NHS program integrates three perspectives on nutrition: biochemical, clinical, and population. The biochemical level considers how nutrients participate in biochemical processes at the molecular level and affect processes such as gene expression. The clinical level is concerned with the impact of nutrition on individuals' metabolism and health, and with the role of nutrition in treating and managing disease. At the population level, nutrition science focuses on epidemiologic studies of diet and health, on the determinants of dietary practices, and on community based interventions to affect nutrition and improve health on a national and international level.

Graduate Division of Biological and Biomedical Sciences

The program is part of the Graduate Division of Biological and Biomedical Sciences (GDBBS). When applying, all applicants will need to select GDBBS first on their application, and then add their primary program. Emory is unique in giving students an option to do dissertation work at the Center for Disease Control (CDC).
