Overview

Felician College Offers Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology Degree

The master's counseling psychology program at Felician College focuses on preparing students to pursue careers as licensed mental health professionals. This program teaches its candidates how to make a commitment to serve the diverse populations within today's society. As with all Felician programs, the graduate program in counseling psychology is consistent with Catholic social teachings on life philosophy and social justice.

The master's degree program prepares its candidates to identify groups, and individuals, who show patterns and frameworks of psychopathology behavior. Students are taught to create and articulate precise treatment plans that will address the diagnoses of these groups and individuals. Through their studies, candidates for the Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology degree at Felician College develop proficiency in pertinent, scientifically-substantiated treatment modalities.

To complete the program, candidates much earn 60 graduate credits. The program offers evening courses on campus in Bergen County, New Jersey, and students have the option of attending class part time or full time. Students will also be prepared to sit for relevant exams so that they may become licensed professional counselors.

Research Facilities

The College Library serves the needs of students, faculty and staff members, and alumni with more than 110,000 books and over 800 periodical subscriptions. This collection is enhanced by large holdings of materials in microform. With its computers linked to information services such as DIALOG and OCLC, and as a member of the New Jersey Library Network and VALE, the library locates and obtains information, journal articles, and books not available in its collection from sources all over the country. Computerized databases can be accessed through the online First Search workstation, where up-to-date information on 40 million books and an index of 15,000 periodicals is available. The library has several CD-ROM workstations. Through EBSCOhost, Bell & Howell's Proquest, CINAHL, and other services, students and faculty and staff members have access to numerous online journal indexes -- as well as articles from thousands of periodicals -- from anywhere on the campus computer network or from their home computers. An experienced staff of professional librarians is available to assist users.

The college's computer facilities include an academic and administrative network, four computerized labs, a computerized learning center, and two computer centers that are available for students, with a total of about 200 computers available for student/faculty member use. All classrooms, offices, and facilities are wired for Internet and e-mail.
