The Extended Studies Program at the Florida Institute of Technology

The Nathan M. Bisk College of Business is one of 5 colleges within the Florida Institute of Technology and is home to the university's Extended Studies Division. Extended studies programs use state-of-the-art technology to offer programs proven to be effective for adult learners employed in government, business, and industry, or enrolled as active military personnel. Faculty and staff members work to ensure collaboration among all off-campus sites and to integrate all aspects of distance education initiatives, including curriculum planning, technology support, and logistical operations.

Florida Tech has 10 in-residence extended study sites in 5 states. Many programs are also available to learners all over the world through the Virtual Campus.

21 Master's Programs Available

The Extended Studies Division offers working professionals 48 online degree opportunities, including more than 21 graduate degrees. Extended study programs use small class sizes and state-of-the-art technology to provide a comprehensive and personalized educational experience. Programs also encourage diversity, inclusion, and multidisciplinary approaches to problem solving. Extended study graduates are prepared for advanced leadership positions in the private, public, and military sectors.

Degree opportunities include the Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Master of Public Administration (MPA). The Master of Science (MS) is also available in a number of areas including aerospace engineering, materiel acquisition management, and space systems.

11 Graduate Certificates Available

The Florida Tech Extended Studies Division offers 11 graduate certificate programs to individuals interested in personal and professional development. Often, certificate programs are completed by students who are not interested in completing a master's or doctoral degree, or by students interested in applying the certificate credits toward a graduate degree later. Each program is credit-based, aligns with existing graduate education curricula, and is taught by graduate faculty members with experience in developing skills and knowledge within their areas of instruction.

The online graduate faculty is comprised of highly skilled, terminally degreed professionals from Florida Tech and other leading universities. Faculty members have extensive, practical experience within their fields of instruction. Their teaching techniques use innovative practices to develop life-long learners and foster personalized education, and which address the unique needs of adult students.

For instance, Dr. Vernon C. Gordon is an adjunct faculty member, as well as a retired naval officer. He says his 15 years of experience on staff at the US Naval Test Pilot School carries over directly to the Florida Tech classroom through the hands-on experiences he brings to his aerospace engineering students. Donald Platt is program director of one of Florida Tech's space systems graduate programs. His real-world space and engineering experience, along with a history of academic focus and research accomplishments, allows him to create an interface between multiple disciplines and apply a fresh and broad perspective to his field.

Financing Graduate Education

The Florida Institute of Technology offers financial aid to graduate students in the extended studies program who are enrolled more than half time. Aid packages typically include grants, loans, scholarships, and work study opportunities. Eligible graduate students may apply for more than 14 fellowships and awards, including the Dr. Leonard S. Healy Graduate Scholarship, Civil Alumni Recruitment Endowment (CARE), and the Deering Fellowship Fund.
