Overview

Hamline University School of Law

Small classes, top-ranked professors, and a spirit of collaboration distinguish Hamline Law, where students are challenged and supported as they gain the knowledge and practical skills needed to become advocates and problem solvers for clients and employers. Experiential learning is at the heart of a Hamline Law degree or certificate.

Hamline Law's location in the highly desirable Twin Cities metropolitan area provides students with opportunities for applying their classroom learning through practical hands-on, field work in the public sector or government, robust non-profits, distinctly Minnesotan private industries, or private practices with which Hamline is associated. Minneapolis/St. Paul also provides students with ample choices for recreation, cultural events, dining and shopping to contribute to students' quality of life.

Juris Doctorate

Hamline Law understands that today more than ever, meaningful experience needs to be the core of any legal education, which is why Hamline integrates skill training and work experience throughout every facet of the curriculum. Practical field experiences bring classroom theory to bear in real-world legal settings that fully prepare students for a fulfilling career. Faculty continually develop compelling new ways to instruct students, which is why Hamline has been named one of the nation's most innovative law schools by "National Jurist."

Hamline Law's JD degree prepares students for JD-required and JD-preferred careers in a variety of settings. Students may choose between full-time weekday JD and part-time JD programs. In connection with other Hamline University graduate programs, Hamline Law offers dual degrees -- JD and a Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Fine Arts in Writing (MFA), Master in Public Administration (MPA), Master in Nonprofit Management (MNM), or Organizational Leadership (MAOL).

Certificate Programs

Hamline Law's nationally renowned centers of excellence -- the Dispute Resolution Institute, the Health Law Institute and the Business Law Institute -- offer professionals and law students the opportunity to develop specialized skills in concentrated areas of law through the pursuit of Certificates in:

- Certificate in Bank Compliance

- Business Law Certificate with IP Concentration

- Business Law Certificate and International Business Negotiation Certificate

- Advocacy and Problem-Solving Certificate

- Certificate in Dispute Resolution

- Global Arbitration Law and Practice Certificate

- Health Law Certificate

- Compliance Certificate

- Online Certificate

Ranked 4th in the nation in dispute resolution ("America's Best Graduate Schools: US News & World Report" 2014 edition), Hamline has 2 decades of experience teaching law students together with other professionals in the Dispute Resolution Institute with a key goal of producing conflict interveners who can deliver real value to employers through their ability to creatively anticipate and solve complex problems.

Master in the Study of Law

Offered as both an online and classroom program, Hamline Law's Master in the Study of Law program is designed for working professionals who recognize that a sophisticated understanding of law and conflict resolution will make them more valuable in their current jobs -- or the next ones. Available in two concentrations, "Conflict Resolution" and "Healthcare Compliance," the Master in the Study of Law can be completed in 12 months.
