Graduate Human Resources Management -- An Overview

Human resources has evolved into a strategic function with great impact across the entire spectrum of an organization's activities. Since its founding in 2000, Holy Family University's degree program for a master's in human resources management has educated more than 100 professionals in this dynamic, growing field. This program meets the core competencies for the HR profession set forth by the Society of Human Resource Management Professionals (SHRM).

Additionally, Holy Family's student SHRM chapter provides ongoing professional development and networking opportunities.

Nearly all of our M.S. holders have secured management-level jobs in human resources departments. Many have been promoted to manager positions, and others have achieved vice presidencies.

Theory and Practice Coming Together in the Education of Managers

Holy Family's program provides an excellent theoretical and practical foundation. With a graduate human resources degree from Holy Family University, students will be prepared for careers in both human resources management and general management.

The future for positions in the areas of training and development, recruiting, employee relations, and compensation continues to be very strong in Greater Philadelphia as well as and in other parts of the country. There is a great future for human resources professionals, and Holy Family's master's in human resources management is an effective way to get in on that future.

A Flexible Program, A Versatile Degree

The M.S. in human resources management requires 33 credits, which can be completed in six semesters, or fewer than two years. Classes are offered at the easily accessible main campus, in Northeast Philadelphia.

This flexible program will enrich students with a varied skill set. Its core requirements will educate them in the full range of topics that effective HR managers must master, from labor relations and compensation to organizational communications and employment law, and virtually everything in between. Electives in organizational staffing and career advancement planning, project management, and human resources in global organizations allow students to orient their degrees in ways that benefit them most.

To develop students' strategic human resources management skills, Holy Family University program seeks to provide opportunities for the development of innovative and effective teaching methods rooted in understanding of management theory and research; to provide successful professional managers with the flexibility to assume leadership roles in human resources management and in the managerial leadership community; to nurture a deep commitment to excellence in human resources management and managerial leadership as a means of service to others; and to provide a supportive and cooperative learning environment that encourages students to develop their potential for study and their understanding of human resources management.

An Institutional Focus on Outcomes

Holy Family's is a challenging academic environment. To succeed at the university, students must be committed. They must put in the work, the hours, and the effort. But if they're willing to dedicate themselves, their efforts will be rewarded. They will receive a first-class education that will enable them to explore new ideas and experiences, one that will fully prepare them for the next steps of their careers as soon as they graduate.

It's easy to see why Holy Family graduates stand out. The difference is real-world. The difference is experience. The difference is preparedness and a focus on student outcomes.

A Challenging and Nurturing Environment

Respect for the individual, the dignity of the human person -- these values are at the very core of the Holy Family institution. They are values that are taught at the university; even more, they are values that are lived here. Holy Family's concern for moral values and social justice guides its programs and enriches everything that it does.

Those values give rise to a vigorous, demanding educational experience that will challenge students even as it teaches them. Yet Holy Family's legacy is also one of mutual support and community. Holy Family's is a smaller, more personal learning environment. Here, students will know their professors, and those professors will, in turn, know their students. When students raise their hands, they'll be called on by name. If students have questions, those questions will be answered. If students need additional help, they will get it. Students' education here will be more personal, more welcoming, and more in tune to their success.
