Overview

The Doctor of Nursing Science at WellStar School of Nursing

The WellStar School of Nursing, Kennesaw State University (KSU), is a stimulating and challenging place to pursue a research doctoral degree in nursing science, the DNS. As the third largest university in the University System of Georgia, KSU is located just 20 miles north of Atlanta.

The program is designed to prepare nurse educators and scholars for leadership roles in nursing education, health policy related to vulnerable populations, and related research. Graduates function as nurse leaders with expertise in nursing and healthcare phenomena related to evidence-based practice, investigative expertise, and leadership skills for influencing health care systems, particularly related to population-based health disparities and population based health care. Coursework prepares graduates to evaluate and influence nursing practice and healthcare delivery systems, and to educate the next generation of nurses through various faculty roles.

The program is offered in hybrid format (50% online and 50% on campus). Students come to campus all day Friday and Saturday once per month with the remainder of coursework offered online. Both full time and part time course schedules are available and many students qualify for partial or full funding of educational expenses. Students report that the program format allows them the right amount of face-to-face contact and online contact with faculty members and peers. Students are supported and mentored to meet common and individual educational needs and future goals. Students are assisted to find university faculty experts both inside and outside the school of nursing who match student interests and goals, as well as experts outside the university to facilitate achievement of their goals.

More information on applying and on the graduate programs at KSU is available.
