A Vibrant Approach to Accounting

The Masters of Accountancy Degree (MAcc) at Kennesaw State University (KSU) Coles College of Business offers an accelerated, one-year program leading to a professional degree in financial reporting and auditing or taxation. As Georgia's largest program in accounting, KSU's institutional resources and alumni network give unparalleled access to accounting careers throughout the southeast. The programs are accredited by the AACSB and the Institute of Internal Auditors.

The Masters of Accountancy at Kennesaw State University

Students in the MAcc program each complete a core curriculum consisting of courses in "Advanced Financial Reporting," "Leadership and Professional skills," "MAcc Travel Experience," "Risk Analysis and Control," and "Theory of Business Reporting." Students then elect one of two specializations: "Financial Reporting and Auditing" or taxation.

Financial Reporting track students take courses in "Corporate Governance," "Forensic Accounting," "Internal Auditing," and a "Seminar in Auditing." Taxation specialists choose courses in "Corporate Taxation," "Flow-through Entities," "International Taxation," and a "Seminar in Taxation Research." Overall, students complete 30 credit hours each.

MAcc students receive professional examination preparation including seminars on the Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), and Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) tests.

Top-ranked Accountancy Research

The faculty members at KSU are leaders in the drive to improve practices in the field. A recent survey of accountancy research by Brigham Young University placed KSU's Coles College of Business among the top-20 institutions in the world for audit research. In individual specializations, KSU placed 14th in auditing research and 18th in auditing information research.

At the Cole College of Business Corporate Governance Center, specialists from multiple universities strive to inform directors, researchers and advisers about cutting-edge developments in corporate governance. The center's staff members have been extensively quoted in the media, including recent pieces in the Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Fortune, Accounting Today, and Business Finance Magazine.

Topics actively researched at KSU include internal audits, financial controls, board and governance, accounting fraud, internal audits, forensic accounting, enterprise risk management, audit committee weaknesses, taxation, international taxation, and executive compensation.

A Faculty of Leaders

Kennesaw State's faculty members are active leaders in their fields, status that they hold through world-class research. Notables include Sridhar Ramamoorti, President of the Board of Directors of the Information Integrity Coalition, Chairman of the Audit Commission of the National Board, and Chairman of the Academy for Government Accountability. Professor Ramamoorti's research interests include corporate governance, forensic accounting, international auditing, and internal auditing and controls.

Dr. Dana Hermanson is KSU's Dinos Eminent Scholar Chair of Private Enterprise and Professor of Accounting. He is co-editor of the journals Accounting Horizons and Current Issues in Auditing, a member of the NACD Blue Ribbon Commission on Audit Committees, and recipient of the Deloitte/Wildmon Medal. He has been recognized as the 80th all-time most prolific author (out of over 10,000 authors) in 25 core accounting journals. Professor Hermanson specializes in accounting fraud, board and audit committees, and internal controls.

Heather Hermanson teaches financial accounting and auditing courses at Kennesaw State University. Her research addresses issues such as internal controls, audit committees, bargaining, international accounting issues, and training and career paths for new accounting professionals. She has been published in such journals as "Accounting Horizons," "Behavioral Research in Accounting," "Issues in Accounting Education," "The International Journal of Accounting," "Advances in Accounting Behavioral Research," "The Journal of Forensic Accounting," "The CPA Journal," and "Internal Auditing."

Professor Jennifer Schaefer is an American Taxation Association Trustee and former Tax Manager with KPMG LLP. Her research interests include taxation and judgment and decision making in accounting.

Kennesaw State University lies on 240 beautiful rolling acres in Cobb County, Georgia, about 20 miles north of Atlanta.
